Question

I've been to a few small meetings and they're great. You get to talk to most people and chat about thier mods and other stuff as well as get to know people better who post on here.

It's the bigger meets that aren't so good for me. I went to the 'Big One' and yes it was very big, probably too big! You see I met a few people on the way up that I already knew, which was nice, but when I got there, it was packed and most people had left thier cars and wandered off into groups and stuff, as you do.

Now I want to try to meet the people I chat with on here, but I haven't a clue who they are. I also want to talk to the owners of some of the more interesting cars and of course they're away from them mostly (excluding Puff!). So my choice is to 'butt in' to small groups of 'strangers' or try to imagine what is under the bonnets of some of the cars.

There is also the problem with my goldfish type memory, I've met quite a few people at track days and I can't remember the names, which is a little embarresing.

How many other people feel the same way?

Can we not organise name tags (with post count to help with level of conversation - don't want to patronise the old hands ) ? Or maybe names on baseball caps or T shirts?

I am in no way suggesting that we start group hugs as ice breakers unless we have a good mix of sexes

LOL, yep name tags sounds good.

Reminds me of when I used to go to PC Lan Competitions. Our team would go down to the pub and were so used to using online nicks that wed be chatting away oblivious to the locals who thought us a tad strange to have names like shockwave, morph, verpine, scrappy, dr.smiley etc

In the good old C.B. days(Breaker,Breaker & all that)if you went to an eyeball(meet) you had a handle(name)badge.

So there is nothing new there. The Radio Shacks selling the gear would run them up.I dare say heel bars or similar can do them.

Same principle if you go to a conference, they issue a name badge so you know who you are talking to.Added bonus you dont need to be Mr.Memory Man either.

Name tag works both ways

you can then choose not to talk to someone

Rich "Dog Hater" on a badge on you would look quite good

Joking aside, this is a valid point here. As some know i'm looking after the Kent (Scoobysnacks) meet and I've had a few new people come along, and you see the cars in the car park, but you have no idea who the people are. Plus a real world name is not always going to be the same as your scoobynet name. This is why I have started to post up a picture of myself and usually wear my scoobynet t-shirt, though i do have a nice new shirt which will make me very recognisable (wait and see). I have thought of wearing a name badge, and might do it one day, one problem is that other people could mistake you for a waiter in the pub!!

I agree mate if you are new to these meets it is very hard.

we put our names on the side windows thinking that alot ot other people would but they didnt.

The stickers cost peanuts and at least you can put names to cars.

Richard............

I prefer to wander round with a bright yellow (Jordan) fleece on - no problems with people wondering who I am

Thumbs up

We could have scooby net T shirts with name/username on them. That wouldn't be too geeky would it?

Rich wouldn't have to worry as they don't do one big enough for him

Drudders,

You mean like this?

I know it's sad but at least it's unique and not as sad as name badges. Having said that, name badges is perfectly logical to this age old problem but you wouldn't catch me wearing one none the less....

Matt

P.S. In case you were wondering, NO, my Aunt will not make you one, and NO, not even for money!!!!! (d'ya think I've been asked this JUST a few times..... )

Agree with your points Floyd.

Not sure if I'd want a name badge... T-Shirt sounds quite good though..

I put "RichS" thingys in the rear passenger windows of my car at the last meet I went to (naff ones printed off my PC)... better than nothing I suppose.

How about posting a pic of yourself in the next pre-meet thread saying "Make sure you say hello to me!"...... On second thought's maybe not..

Rich
