ive got Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tyres on my car, (original tyres as far as i know)

i undertsand they are SUMMER tyres??

so are they legal for WINTER?

I agree with the dangerous in snow bit fantastic summer tyre, you need to get the heat into them so in the cold they can take a little time to get up to temp, no issues in the wet and im on my 3rd set interesting on greasy surfaces though.

I do chuckle to myself with comments on something like a RE070 performing in wet / cold conditions. Personally I find the tyres absolutely fine..... remember most people adjust their driving to suit the conditions. Don't expect all tyres to peform as well in all conditions. I found 888's fine in the wet / cold.... and imo they are not as good as RE070's in the same conditions.

Most normal tyres are **** in the snow..... you really need a proper winter tyre if you want something that performs well in those conditions imo.

Ensure you have good tread +3-4mm minimum in the winter and drive according to the conditions and you will be absolutely fine.

 

070s are great in the dry and on the track, good in the wet and well dodgy on greasy/near zero temp surfaces.
Horses for courses really.
Any tyre that performed equally well in all of these situations would be **** in all of them.

I had re070's on my 03sti and to be honest they where just as bad as the origonal reo40's and my new michelin ps3's once the snow had blocked all the tread.
Pretty much all summers tyres inc 'trackday' tyres and 'everyday' tyres are rubbish once the snow has bocked the tread.
Just drive carefully, or if you are loaded get some winter yres and swap them over every November till April?

I always found the RE070's to be good in the wet and dry, unbelievable on track, but generally b****y aweful as a day to day tyre. Mine used to track about all over the place if the road was nothing but smooth. I changed them to goodyear eagle F1's and although I lost some of the ultimate grip, they made for a much nicer tyre for day to day.

 

I had RE070s on my Spec C ... superb tyres in the dry, OK in the wet. In 2yrs of ownership I only had one "moment" in the rain

Edit - they did track the road ruts but I kinda got used to it.
