If anyone has any ideas on this it'd be greatly appreciated...

There's a knocking noise coming from the gear stick & it vibrates, but only happens in 2nd & 4th! It can get quite loud. You can also feel it slightly through the clutch peddle if you depress it gently as you're travelling.

Also, when you're at idle & you rev the car you can hear & feel it if you depress the clutch peddle as well. It doesnt seem to affect performance at all & it goes away when you let of the accelerator peddle & back again as you put it down. It seems like a vibrating knock & not a clunk or high pitched knocking & very much related to the gear stick, 2nd, 4th & clutch peddle.

If anyone has any ideas or anyone experienced this before. Worringly confused!!

Regards

Johny.

Hi mate,

I've been having the same problem with mine.
it happened straight after having a new clutch fitted so i took it back to the dealing he found the problem to be a worn rubber bush on the gear select lever.
Appantently it is a known prob.

Having mine changed on monday will let you know if sorts it out.

Question

Dont know if this is the same problem but my heatshields on a MY00 started to rattle due to small cracks and loose bolts after having an aftermarket exhaust fitted and caused lots of noise.

MelTypeR if you know the part number for the rubber bush pleas let me know.

Mel,

I was thinking it was as you say the gear select lever but I think it's further - sort of deeper problem.

I am with 888 Blue about the part number though. Can you give an indication of cost if it's not on warranty.

888 Blue - have tried the heatshield & tightened all bolts etc. It was rattling somewhat but stopped when tightened but the original noise is still there.

Cheers

Johny

My dealer is changing mine under warranty because they said they should have seen it when changing the clutch.

Not sure of the part no but the part is pictured on the below link.
You will see three types OEM/STI/KARTBOY.

Mel,

Cheers for the link. Interesting. The site seems to only mention later Imprezas, I have a MY95 & am unsure about the fitting of the lever or bushing.

Anyone know of alternatives or would later fitments do okay for earlier models?

Regards

Johny.

Hi mate,

Dont know how hard it was to change as dealer done it, but the noise was the loudest in 4th gear although it was present in 2nd and 3rd.

It sounded like there was a loose bolt somewhere coming from just under the gearstick/gearbox.

Another thing i had noticed was that the gearstick didn't feel as solid when it was in gear, felt a bit loose.
