Question

Just had an interim service - the one b4 the 45K big one and I just happend to ask the service manager - "how much is the cam belt on the next service 45K miles?".

He said - your car doesnt need it - all the 99 onwards should be changed at 60K as per the new WRX.

Slightly disbelieving I said - but the service book says otherwise - he said yeah they just put old books in.

So anyone out there with a MY00 what does you service book / manual say ?

My book says 45k or 36 months.

There's a thread on here somewhere about the 60k change, i think the outcome was to avoid the risk and have it changed at 45k / 36 months?

The thread was about 6 weeks? ago - i'll have a look,

Nick.

Carl,

The dealer told me it was the same engine in the 99/00 prior to wrx. So the service interval was 60k. Where pray did you source the information from ?

Would IM be able to tell me from the chasis number ?

AIUI MY99 manual says 45k, MY00 manual (which I have) says 60k. One of the dealers who posts on here confirmed it via the appropriate service bulletin. Do you have MY99 or MY00 (colour coded handles & door mirrors, and some map lights?)

Maybe you have an earlier book? I specifically ordered the manual from a UK dealer (Dutch import) and it took a few weeks to come in, so I guess they ordered it from IM. It says '60k' and has pictures of old-shape scoobs in it.

The cover is kind of half blue (top half) and half white (bottom half) and on the inside front cover it says (c) 1999 Fuji Heavy Industries. The seatbelts on my car say 09/99 -- it was delivered in Dec 99 and I ordered the manual in Jan 00 at the 1k service.

HTH?

Just re-checked my books last night - owners manual clearly says 60k, but service book (with stamps) says 45k!! - looks like i've got the wrong combination of books?

What now?

Wink

We need to get a copy of the service bulletin detailing from which VIN the service is 60k not 45k.

I think a call to Subaru UK - now if only their website had a number !

Think you may be due a cambelt at 45k then. Look on the bright side -- your most expensive service doesn't occur until 90k (30k and 45k combined) whereas mine occurred at 60k. Dealer should be able to confirm from the VIN as the service bulletin should specify from which number onwards the 60k interval applies. Of course the thing is that my car is mechanically identical to yours, so you could get away with waiting until 60k but I wouldn't risk it simply because you want the right stamps in the service book.

Edited to say that at one point my wife and my sister had mechanically identical Citroen Saxos, but my sister's had 9k service intervals and wifey's had 12k intervals.

My service book is written in Dutch and is just a generic Subaru one. It has little boxes with multiples of 7,500 miles (12,000 km) and then just 'klein/groot' next to it (I assume 'big/small') which you're supposed to delete as appropriate.

Your dealer should have a copy of the service bulletin -- if they don't play ball try another dealer. I think the service manager for Lavender Hill in Enfield posts on here -- might be worth giving them a bell? (0208 363 3456)
