My Cars Black, and currently i use when i can be arsed, Zymol shampoo, then i use maguirs wax then maguirs High gloss Polish, what ive found out over the AutoGlym stuff is Maguirs doesnt leave much of a white residue and is easy to get off.

When i cant be arsed i use the turtle wax minute stuff, of which personally i find mega good, so quick.

Im open to diff types, anybody reccomend any others over AG and Maguirs ?

Why are you waxing the car & then polishing it? This will just strip the wax off...

 

My wrx is black with a bit of golf I use

Meg ntx shampoo
Meg clay bar (only evey 6 months then re-wash)
Meg swirl X (works really well)
A/G deep gloss shine
A/G HD wax

All in all around 2 hrs and the car looks mint

For wax, I found a great finish when washing, drying, claying, then applying Poorboys Black Hole sealant (which fills swirls and gives a great shine on its own), then followed by Poorboys Natty Blue Wax, just makes dark colours shine so deeply.

Only my opinion though!

i quite fancy one of them Maguires polishers but a bit expensive

 

Get a Silverline polisher (look at Amazon), approx £40 and people get good results from them. Get an old bonnet from the scrappy to practise on first, serious damage can be inflicted in the wrong hands!

 

Dude, Mequires clar bar once or twice a year.
Then once every month or two a good run with Autoglym super resin polish & sealed with Dodo Juice supernatural wax

Result!

If its chalking, then you are using too much polish.
I get the impression car cleaning isn't at the top of your list of hobbies.... if thats the case, Collinite 476 is one of the longest lasting waxes and works well on dark colours.

Das6 DA polisher for £85 is what you want will transform the car

Plenty lube on the pads and you can't do any harm
Clay bar or clay is important before waxing
I have moved from swissol and autoglym to chemical guys 50/50 paste which is fantastic value at £40 a tub

Swissvax Samurai £50 for awee tub, but that wee tub lasts me a year using it every 6 weeks or so.

Maguiars is pretty good too.

 

I have a Meguiars polisher, very good bit of kit, but as you say, not cheap.

Personally, polish wise, I use Jeff's Werkstatt trigger & gloss - very good & easy to use.

Collinite is a firm favourite for my winter protection routine.

 

I have a black Impreza. Which has a lot of stratches and loads of swirls. I'm going to give it a good wax and polish. But have been told by a valater that the paint on the impreza is thin. So using that clay stuff puts more straches in than its worth.

 

Claying a car shouldn't put scratches into the paint, although is can cause slight marring. I would suggest you are using it incorrectly if it is introducing scratches or the claybar has been dropped.

Machine polishing an Impreza shouldn't be a problem, as long as it is done correctly & witht he right products. Using cutting compound & a wool pad is highly likey to result in strike-through in the wrong hands.

To the op - what is your budget and how long are you happy to spend on cleaning / detailing? It's pointless recommending something unless we know this.
