Nick dead easy, unbolt the 2 bolts holding the forge onto the intercooler(using a 12 mm spanner),disconnect the small vacume hose and remove dv with the gasket. The chrome bit i think your refering to is a bung which is normally placed in the return inlet tract. It will probably be held in the pipe by a clip.Undo clip and pull out the bung.Fit standard recirc valve back on making sure that the pipe which had the bung in connects to the hose outlet pipe on your recirc valve, and jubilee clip it up.Put gasket back on and connect recirc back onto intercooler with same 2 bolts, connect up vacume hose and away you go.

It might not have a clip, depending on how tight the bung is in the pipe ,but most people tend to use the existing o/e spring clip that the car came with.

A pair of pliers mate, squeeze the 2 lugs together which will open up the clip, slide it down the hose ,and remove the bung ,it might be a little tight.

right this dv ive got standard one has the pipe at the top off dv and the bit were the bung pipe should go but looking at mine it has 2 screw holes in it so you basicly coudnt secure it with a spring clip looks like there should be a gasket on where it mates up with the bung pipe

Right nick first need you to confirm that the dumpvalve you have fitted to your car looks like this :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUBARU-IMPREZA...item3a5c461d32

If it is you simply undo the 2 x 12 mm bolts and disconnect the blue hose in the picture, the dv should come off and there should be a gasket behind it.

The standard dump valve should look like this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/subaru-impreza...item335e370af1

As you have the forge removed, you should be able to see a pipe with a bung in next to your intercooler, remove the bung and fit the hose to your std recirc valve & fasten with a clip./tie ,and bolt it back on to the intercooler.Refit the vacume pipe and away you go,are you sure you have the correct recirc valve as the 99/00 ones are similar shape but have the hose pointing to the right at about 2.0 clock, the correct one should have the hose pointing to the bottom at about 6.0 clock.

Nick are you saying that the recirc valve you have bought has not got a alloy pipe at the bottom of the valve, as bug/blob eye are the same valve.
see below:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/subaru-impreza...item335e5d9791

It would be interesting if you could post some pictures of the valve you have
