15 50 Mobil 1 or 10 60 Millers

 

Depends on the level of mods Kas, for a standardish car just stick will a decent 10w40 oil

10w40 semi synthetic is top of the list on your car, the 15w50 is good in summer but too thick in winter for cold starts and the 10w60 is far too thick for your car full stop. If you want a fully synthetic then you can try either a 5w40, 10w40 or a 10w50, it all depends on what mileage and condition your engine is in.

If its standard then 10 40 would also be good.

 

Thanks for the advice, Its running a bigger top mount, Been mapped and running a power FC. Running just over 300bhp.

Im running about 320bhp on my new age, still the 10w40 is suited for this, at the moment im using 5w40 shell helix ultra fully synthetic, you dont need the mobil 1 really, just a good 10w40, but it does depend on the mileage and the way the engine has been treated, if its worn then shoving a 15w50 will mask the problem, if there is some wear then a 10w50 will be more suited, if not then the 10w40 is more than sufficient

A 10w-40 semi is the basic choice for a standard car. A 10w-40 synthetic is a step up in protection and will cope with some modifications and some track use. A 10w-50 synthetic is the one to go for in heavily modified cars or ones that are used on track a lot. 15w-50 would be used in similar cars to the 10w-50, but it doesn't give as good cold start protection.

Which from Millers XXS, Motul 6100 and Gulf competition 10-40 would be best for my standard 2001 wrx with decat and 91k on the clock would be best?

No, synthetic is best, semi is the basic choice. Gulf Competition is the best one of those.

this is my first post on here.
I've recently bought my first Subaru Impreza, absolutely loving the car. I want to do an oil change. Its a 2003 Blobeye WRX Wagon PPP (260BHP) im a bit confused which oil I should use. the Manual says 5W30 is recommended but also says 10W30 and 10W40 are ok!? a lot of people say 5W40, i also see that it should be API SL grade. the car has 111k on the clock also, any advise would be greatly appreciated as the more I look into this more I get confused as to which would best suit the engine!

A 5w-40 is the standard, but a 5w-40 is often used as it will give more protection if you get it hot through hard driving.

Thanks for the reply, what about Transmission oil, and rear diff oil?
In the manual it has rear diff:
90, 85W, 80W and 80W90
Manual Transmission:
90, 85W, 80W and 75W90
both API GL-5
it seems the thinner oils have a higher temperature operating range according to the diagram in the manual.
What would you recommened for the same car, i might aswell order them all together with the engine oil.

I would keep it simple and use a 75w-90 for the gearbox and diff.

If you want to go for the best, the Millers CRX 75w-90 NT, Gulf Competition, Motul Gear 300, Red Line 75w-90NS and Millers TRX are ideal for the gearbox. The Castrol Universal/Universal Plus, Motul Motylgear and Fuchs Gear Syn are all decent alternatives. The Fuchs Syn 5, Millers CRX, Redline 75w-90 GL5, Motul Gear 300 and Gulf Competition are ideal for the diff. The Fuchs Sintopoid, Castrol Syntrax Longlife, Millers TRX, Motul Motylgear, Mobil SHC and Gulf Syngear are also good choices.

Car is 1993 impreza, 110K 330bhp,and wont be tracked.
Cant decide between 5-40,10-40 or 10-50 fully synth
And of which ever is the best grade can you recommend a few of the best ones to get please. Used Millers in the past but I see from reading you rate the Gulf Competition one too.

I've got all the new oils in my car, just thought I'd give some feedback, the Silkolene Pro S (Fuchs Titan Race S) seems to have reduced the engine noise (tapping) which wasn't bad but you could hear it when you had the bonnet up. I am most impressed though with the Motul Gear 300, which I've got in the gearbox and rear Diff, it has made a noticeable difference to gear changes and selecting reverse, it slides into gear alot smoother now, so it must provide better lubrication to the transmission then the standard oil, very impressed. thanks again Oilman
