i was driving in traffic when my car started making a noise in second gear, so carryed on and then bang it went,

it came out of gear and was hard to get in any gear,

i manged to get home by pushing it in 1st then got it in 3rd got home now its sitting waiting for a 6 speed conversion,

when i start the car the gearbox rattles like mad like there is bits in the box. if i press the clutch in this noise goes away

is it a dead box?

im doing the STi 6 Speed anyway now its gone just wounded if anyone knows if 2nd is well a truly dead

Should like you have stripped 2nd gear. When you press the clutch the gears are no longer under any drive that is why the noise dissapears.

Your box will be Ty754VN1AA or 2AA. I have a full set of mint shafts for your box for sale if you want to refurb the box and sell it on.

about 340bhp atm mate.

 

hmmm im at 324bhp an 319lbft torque so will expect mine to go soon

 

Must admit it done well, it had about 7 1/4 mile Drags and its been like it a year since its been mapped so not to bad i suppose

6 speed is with me very soon

i wish but rigt now i want a v5sti box or type r box or maybe even a ra. i dont launch mine butdone a first gearbox oil change an had a few shavings of teeth on the magnet. hopefully will last

 

If you have a my99 onwards (facelift) the sti5 gearbox is no stronger then a my99 uk car

yep i do have thefacelift my99 but id like more of a close ratio box
