whats up with keighley
Yes, dont bother. The depressed exchange rate makes cars cost approaching twice what they used to.
Add to that, that the 2002 STI 'Wagon bombed - hardly anyone bought one so they canned the model after one year of production. They are extremely rare: I looked for three years (and imported many cars) and I only saw 2 / 3 go through the auctions. To put this into perspective: I looked at listings of thousands of cars every day.

Like others have said the exchange rate is crap at the mo but importing is fairly easy .
Find a agent in japan they will search out the car you want for a reasonable fee and put it on a boat fob (free on board you pay the shipping at this end) .
You normally pay half the value immediately then the other half when the car is on the boat . The agent will with hold the docs until the car is paid in full as insurance . You want a shipping agent at this end to sort all your paperwork out with customs .They charge about £30ish and it avoids any headaches .
Shipping will cost around £400-£500 .It goes on the size of the vehicle .
You will have to pay vat and duty on the cost of the car plus the cost of shipping . Your shipping agent will bill you for the shipping , duty and vat and send it to where ever it needs to go .
Then its off to the docks with your trailer and pick it up asap as they charge storage if its there more than 10 days I think .

It would be cheaper to do your own conversion on a WRX wagon.
As you would want to add Brembos as well !
IMHO
dunx
P.S. I've got a Prodrive "nose" you could fit.... LOL

£9500 duty paid; but thats if you get a cheap customs agent and they arent charging more than US$69 per M3 for shipping.
Just shipped my own car (STi Type RA) from here, Yokohama, to S'hampton and was $67 per cubic meter which is the rate at the moment. All in cost £591 (¥85,000) to ship incl shipping agents fees. My customs agent in S'hampton is charging me £65 in addition.

£65? Bloody Hell! Next time use Penguin. Ive included the bunkerage surcharge in my rate _ I presume that its still applied as oil is far dearer now than when it was introduced. Because the car in the example has a quoted FOB price, then the buyer will only have to pay for 10.5-11.0 M3s worth of shipping to the UK: de-registration and storage/loading are all included.
