It should be the same as a MY06.

Unscrew the head of the gearstick, pop off the gear surround plastic.
You will see 2 posi-screws keeping the front facia on. Unscrew these and pop off the front panel - this will take off the aircon front, front of head unit surround etc.

You should then see 6 posi-screws keeping the frame of the head unit in. Keep the frames as they are specific to your model of car!

the surround facia for the air con and such is very firmly held in place at the top, every time i've taken it off i feel the clips are going to break.
Fear not they don't. Dont need to take the gear **** head off either.

Cheers for the links guys but have hit a snag; my 03 doesn't have the same dash layout as the 05+ models...

Can't see your pic.... stupid works computer but it'll be the same as my 04 at a guess.
Pop the cup holder and there should be 1-2 screws holding the unit in, undo them and remover the cup holder unit from the dash. Then you can grab the facia and pull it off, it's held in by clips and comes off fairly easy.

From memory of a 02 STI which I changed the head unit on
You open the cup holder and remove the screws, then pull the cup holder out.

This then let you have better access to remove the front panel.

After you remove this I think there are 6 screws which allow head unit removal.
