Default Check Engine Light - Came on for 10 secs ???

Hi all, Been for a run today in my99 uk turbo, did around 100 miles and check engine light came on for around 10 seconds then went off n stayed off ???

Not been thrashing it, steady 70 - 80mph on m180 on way back steady away, light came on then then went off, car seems fine, ticks over spot on and pulls well just a bit concerned, standard apart from that silly pipercross induction kit wi alloy pipe, also got a pppptttisssss valve ;-)

Thanks in advance
Andy

Could be absolutly anything Andy, a sensor on the way out maybe Do a fault check and see if it spits anything up, if nothing then just keep an eye on it.

Need rid of the induction kit and that fecking horrid pipe ASAP. Even if it doesn't turn out to be directly related to this fault, the two of them together are a recipe for looming disaster. If you're lucky this is the MAF actually telling you it's on its way out (more often than not, they don't fail in a way that actually triggers the CEL), but we'll soon find out.

As B13 has said, black plugs under the dash, ignition on and count the flash sequence on the CEL. Long flashes are tens and short flashes are 1's so two long flashes and three short = 23 (etc.). It can store more than one error so make sure you keep watching and making note until you see the same numbers repeating.

Some of the obvious/common ones are 21: Coolant temp sensor, 22: Knock sensor, 23:MAF, 24: Idle speed control valve, 31: Throttle pos sensor, 32: O2 sensor, 44: Boost control solenoid, 45:MAP sensor or pressure source change solenoid.

As you say MAF sensors often don't give out any obvious clues (let alone a CEL) when they degrade, but in this case, if the check engine light has come on, there will be an error recorded, it doesn't work any other way.

anything that the ecu recordes as in the light comes on......it stores the fault,so whatever codes are coming up,replace faulty part and ensure you reset ecu.otherwise fault is still stored.

Follow the guide on JGM's site

http://www.jollygreenmonster.com/ecu.asp.htm

IIRC it takes a couple of hours if you disconnect the battery.
