just fitted magnex downpipe, the new pipe had 2 threaded holes in it
the one at the very top i didnt need so i made a blank and welded it up,the second one further down i needed to use but the sensor thingy didnt clamp up correctly on investigation i found the standard exhaust had a seat for it to seal on, the magnex just had a straight through hole which i had to blank off for now,any way the question i want to ask is is it safe to run with it disconnected and what does it do?seems ok with out it but would like to understand the workings of it all ....buy the way the jobs
not easy? MY94 wrx import

Sounds like the Lambda sensor i.e. O2 sensor, which the ECU uses to adjust the fuelling on the car.

I wouldn't have thought it would run very well without it, and yes you do need it.

Read the above link,

The exhaust gases are constantly monitored by a Lambda Sensor that is generally positioned in the exhaust down-pipe before the Cat. This lambda sensor samples the gases and reports back to the engine management system. If there is not enough Oxygen in the gases then the system leans off the fuel injection very slightly.
This is carried out many times per second and allows the engine to burn the fuel more efficiently, lowering the EXHAUST EMISSIONS.

from this basically it keeps emissions low.
