Question Boys and their Toys

I haven't treated myself to a present for a while (Excluding Xmas)

Was pottering around town today and popped into Halfords to warm up a bit and thought I'd take a look at the ICE section.

Spotted this:
AVIC-F900BT Multi-sensor GPS, Entertainment & Communication System (DVD, CD, SD Card, USB & iPod playback) - Pioneer Sat Nav - GPS

Anyone got one? or an Opinion? Anyone got advise on a better product for the same ballpark (£600)

Thumbs up

I'm just in the process of getting one for my GTI

Fantastic bit of kit. It DEMANDS that you update to Vers 3.0 OS otherwise, it's a bit on the slow side. My guess is you'll be on Vers 2.x

Have a look over on AVIC411.com
American and can be a bit ignorant and lacking in replies (due to taking no interest!), but there's a lot of useful information. Some fabbo mods, as it's based on WinCE.

As a Double-Din, it will fit in the Scoob - you might need to get some trim for it though.
I've found it as cheap as £540, but the Golf requires additional CANBUS stuff that the Scoob doesn't.

If you want it without SatNav, look at the AVH-P4100DVD, but you'll need to buy a Bluetooth module as well, making the F900 pretty good value.

I have a similar Pioneer in my pickup, it's been faultless, although as with most Satnavs it's route planning is a bit odd sometimes.

AVIC-D3BTi In-dash GPS, Entertainment System - Pioneer Sat Nav - GPS

The bluetooth works well with 90% of the phones I've used except anything HTC.

The iPod integration is superb, I've also added the reversing camera, very handy.

There's a Kenwood thing too, but it's a bit more expensive - in fact they all are about £800, the F900 is now end-of-line, therefore a cheaper price.....

Mondeo Double Din Fascia's If you search the net you'll see a few examples of it having been done before and looking good. The only way you are screwed is if you have the sat nav like I do as the climate controls are integrated with it. However, since I have sat-nav I have little need for an aftermarket solution.

Kenwood DNX-5220BT 6.1 inch Wide Double-Din Size Navigation System With Bluetooth - DNX-5220BT from Kenwood

I managed to find one for £480 though

Yep infact they have a removable facia for the car - its just the mondeo forum seemed to think it was a tricky prospect

One thing stopping me from going ahead is that it does seem the wrong place for a sat nav really - i mean really you should have it at screen height so you can see down the road at the same time , more or less
