MY01 WRX performance vs 02WRX?
Took delivery of 02WRX 2weeks ago, traded in 01Model.
Couldn't stand those awful sports seats anymore, buckets miles better.
I had been a bit disappointed with O1, even by 15K gutless lowdown and never that fast.
New one miles better already, pulls in 5th from 35MPH easy, old one stuttered below 45.
Anyone else experienced this?
Wonder if just a duff car or the 02s are better?
P.S dealer fitted philips vision plus bulbs to new one for free.Far better, don't hesitate to fit them if not done already!

Think my '02 is pretty quick, only done 1200miles (1k service tomorrow) & having some serious fun in it
Have been told it will improve when it "loosens up" but I'm more than happy with the performance as it is,& its not far behind a PPP'd '01....or were you going easy on me Steve
Will be visiting TSL soon for some mods....

Harry,
Yeah I am, had a suprise bonus at work today
Me and my business partner are going to call down to TSL tomorrow after we've been to Monty's for the service. Going to see what we can spend our money on.
Hoping to have Eibachs & Geometry, Stainless steel braided brake hoses and an ITG panel filter all fitted by next week. Can't decide if to have a back box fitted as well? Also considering the TSL replica STi style mesh fog light covers....
its a hard life spending money
Hi Bob,
You finally got yours then....its a great feeling
Filling up with Optimax tonight a guy in an Astra came over for a chat about my WRX and was drooling over it....you gotta love the attention
Does anyone know the directions to TSL? just say's "Keyworth" on their website....?

Bonus - still trying to persuade the wife that it was worth it Mate. She's got a list of what it's all cost, that she keeps updating, then pinning to my notice board in the office.....

BL - where you based(ish) Mate? Did you come back on the ferry -we did this a couple of weeks ago and I was sweating with every lurch that the damned thing made over the North Sea....
My 02 wrx had a 1000 mile service yesterday. The car feels 'looser'. Will be giving it a test today. Very pleased so far.
It seems a bit slower compared to my old my98, but i think thats more to do with the build quality. There are no drafts and nothing rattles yet. I can hear the stereo above 60mph in the new one too.

Good one BL! Mine was next to a huge container. When they strapped the freight down, it didn't give me much confidence....
You're right TCD. The bugeye is much underrated as a long distance cruising tool.

35mph in 5th?
Jeez...you should just be changing upto 2nd!
Saying that, i tried 35 in 5th on the way home at lunch time (in my MY01), was juddering something awful but the revs were barely over 1000.
Would a re-map do anythiung about this?

For the record the only difference between the MY01 and MY02 is the aerial is in a different place and the MY02 is serviced very 10000 miles instead of 7500 miles for the MY01. This is as per my local Subaru salesman (Heritage - Leicester).

My MY01 is on 10k miles servicing as well! No issues, new log book is issued at the next service.
UK300s are moving to 10k services.
As far I was aware the MY01 and MY02 are the same under the bonnet.
Again using 5th at 35mph would point more to a driving style that caused the car to act in a sluggish manner. I use 2nd and 3rd for that speed, 3rd if I am trying to keep the noise down a bit for the village/town I live in.

You shouldnt drive a new scoob at 35mph in 5th gear...if you try to pull away in 5th, it is putting more stress on the engine than an occassional redline trip! Or at least this was the case with new engines when I was in the motor trade...left in '94
IMHO of course...

I've had my O2 for a couple of weeks now and it's working lovely
Funny that my dealer said when I bought the car that the 'running in' period should actually be a period where the car is pushed. They've had cars that have been run-in lightly and they have become gutless, whereas the cars that have been pushed have turned out to be revvy and free running.
It's interesting how different attitudes are to this period in a cars (and drivers) lives ;-)

To be honest, the first couple of hundred miles in mine, I've been taking it pretty easy, but not pipe & slippers stuff. A few excursions to 5,000 - nothing beyond, and no labouring the engine. Fairly easy acceleration and varying the engine speed as much as possible. After 500 or so, I'll open it up a bit more. Did the same with my VR6 Corrado, and it ended up one of the fastest around. Then, after 8 or 900, let it rip a bit....
Harry,
Sounds similar to how I've been running in mine.
first tankful of fuel I was very careful, next tank a few more revs etc, once past 500ish I was giving it some real welly. By 900 I was giving it a good thrashing
Only thing to watch for apart from labouring is sustained redlines in the early days as the bearings can "pick up" when they are still tight...I once stripped a Rover engine with less than 500 miles on the clock, well I part stripped it to find the crank seized solid the Rover sent out a brand new engine. The customer admitted to me later that he was going flat out(at redline)down the M1 for quite a while when it happened!

Good stuff Bob - I'm as careful as sin with it, especially since my wife pinned up the list of what it's cost me - and what we could have bought instead (new extension etc....).
I don't make a habit of driving at slow speeds in 5th, that was just to illustrate the new engines flexibility.
Thing is it does't labour at all where as the old one would have almost stalled. Also getting 28mpg vs 22 in the running in stage of the 01. I guess it just illustrates the difference between good/average examples.
