I currently have a racebox back box, deresonated centre section and decat downpipe. I fancy a new back box, something a bit bigger than the racebox, not a rolled tip but not the channel tunnel either. I want more burble but do not want it really loud.

I considered the after burner but some reports say this is really loud with a decat.

Any advice?

afterburner with full decat is quite loud iirc 108db at combe @4500 rpm .

perhaps you should try the ninja its quiet around town but comes to life when you open it up

 

With the amount of sound deadening in the newage, the afterburner wouldn't be too loud inside. I had one on my classic wrx a few years back on thought it was spot on. I did have a resonated centre section though.

 

Had an Afterburner(decat & de-resonated) on my old 02 STi. Sounded awesome, but was loud.

Nur Spec 'S' in the Spec D is fine mate

Yes, also the Spec D is factory sound deadened.

 

'R' 96db with the baffle inserted and 105db with the baffle removed.
'S' Generally between 92-96db on a standard car, although I read 98db somewhere, no baffle supplied.

 

So a Ninja or a Nur Spec S is the advice eh. Where's the best place to source the Nur Spec S?

I like the Genome but you don't see many for sale and I am not paying silly money for a back box.

I had it remapped as soon as it was decatted. Wouldn't dream of running a 2.5ltr decatted without a map.

 

my car is decatted would it be as loud as the R when i had it on?

 

At the back, probably, in the cabin, probably not.

 

afterburner vortex isnt that loud tbh and gets my vote

 

on a classic a vortex with full decat unresonated is REALLY loud, trust me. i changed mine to a genome as it was stupid loud.

 

I have gone for the hks system, itz not loud but a deep grumble instead, sounds lovely

 

how much difference does the bung make on the nur spec r?

 

Had one (409 Hi Power) on my old blob STi Full decat slightly unequal length headers, sounded really good!! Best sound ive had on any of my 5 scoobs by far. Sounded Japanese, bit like Spec c, like a big bike on full chat, proper howl!!

Errrr yeah, thanks for that but the question wasn't what really loud exhaust do you have It was what is a moderate volume exhaust with a decat that has a nice burble.

The car is a 2.5ltr hawkeye STi by the way. I must admint I am quite liking the Nur Spec S.

try the ninja or H&S mate, i believe the 3" round H&S has a lovely sound to it..not over the top

 

Is the H & S a bit louder than the racebox? I believe that is also 3". Nice back box but I don't use the car as much now so can get something slightly louder. I'm too old for too loud

 

Nur Spec S or R depending on size. Or Genome even better.
