i am thinking of getting a nissan pulsar gti r for a every day run about and i have my eyes on a 300 bhp pulsar gti r in black which i think might do job not to dear, big power and seems to put certain cars to shame. any body every owned one of these or have any advice on them?

I had one and it was great. Wouldn't want to use one on a day to day basis though.

 

My friends got one and it s off the road more than it s on and it s a completely standard car!
I ve heard alot of bad things about their reliability

 

mate of mine had one which had a mine`s ecu, frontmount, bov etc. was very quick on the launch and up to 60 but ran out of puff very quickly.
in the space of 1 year it was of the road for 3 months, usual drivetrain issues and then suprisingly for a jap car a fault in the fuel pump wiring caused it to break down requiring recovery.
The final breakdown was a bit more sinister, after a good spanking down a motorway sliproad it suddenly started to fire on 3 cylinders, couldnt find anything wrong with the ignition circuit eventually found the rocker arm had sheared off completly on cylinder no1!

 

They suffer badly with weak gearboxes and clutches, engines need uprating to run more than 1bar of boost, standard wheels are like 14 or 15 inch, so imagine how small those brakes are , but I like them anyway

Hmm, some of them may have problems. But they are awsome motors IMO.

I will defo own one in the future.

 

i had one years ago,when they first started importing them..
and one thing to remember is standard is better than tuned with these.
gearboxs should be re-built every 5000mls,and engines every 10,000mls.
they are a "rally car for the road"!!!!!!!.
if you owned a wrc car it would be off the road more than on!!!!!
if you pay 4-5k you will get a good one,2-3k ok one...(thrashed).
and they do go very wrong,and when they do get your wallet out!
was looking at one a few weeks ago,1 of 200 ever buit it was up for 6k.
but very well serviced,as they run chains in the engine,cambelts are not a worry.
but take your time or the scoob will be your daily driver,not the nissan....
and mine did 15mpg..food for thought!!!!!!!!
i owned mine for a year and a half and spent(with buying it,that was £7500).....
wait for it................................................ ......
i worked it out at 18,500, give or take a few pound here or there....
think of what i could have owned!

This reminds me of something quite funny that happened a few years ago...

I was heading back from a town about 20 miles from where I stay. Just outside the town this white Gti-r overtook me flat out and disappeared into the distance pretty quickly, driving like a complete ****.

It was a nice summers night so I was taking it easy and just relaxing. Was about 2 miles from my house when I saw a huge cloud of smoke coming from the other side of the crest I was approaching - Sure enough, it was the Nissan at the side of the road. His fun didn't last long!

 

My mates brothers had one each, one had a Dakar edition and it was fast as ****. Both cars were off the road more than on it.

If i had a load of spare cash i'd love to get a minter for a toy.

 

i owned one back in 1999 and i tell you it was fast as **** ,never had any problems with it either and it handled alot better than my scooby did it was awesome .

i would defo have another but as a track toy

 

I had one 4 years ago, modded to about 300bhp, suspension mods and 360mm wilwoods on the front, the standard brakes are absolutely shocking! Mine was a rare sunroof model It was great fun, sounded lovely, pops bangs flames!

 

yea well i wont be doing much miles and il be using the car sensible and looking after it and hopfully i get a good one
