Just got a letter from Comet telling me my 12 months warranty is out in September. Never been a big fan of extended warranties and with the new regs on Sales of Goods Act, do i need to extend it? Basically, if it goes wrong, should a £700+ TV last longer than 12 months.

What other options are there if i decided i wanted the peace of mind?

 

Honestly i wouldn't bother myself but it really is your choice.

 

Pioneer were suggesting that the life on one of their Plasma screens was in excess of 50,000 hours.

Not to say that nothing will go wrong, but I have 2 Plasma screens, one of which is now 4 years old and I wouldnt bother at all.

I am in the AV industry and in the main, they are proving to be VERY reliable

Given how cheap they are now anyway, they are almost becoming disposable.

I have had my LG for 3
years now, it NEVER goes off, The Mrs leaves it on for the cats when we are in bed or out.
It still works fine, I took the chance and just got the one year warranty and I am glad I did. Still works like new.

 

They never pay out anyway they always seem to get out of it

Always buy with a free 5yr warranty if possible, but never pay extra for one

 

I would imagine it should last longer, but I don't know how easy it is to fight for your rights, if it should go wrong. I think the onus is on you to prove it was an inherent fault though, but I'm a bit unclear on all this stuff.

Depending upon what the extended warranty costs, and what it includes, it may be worth the risk, not bothering, but that's up to you to decide.

Is there nothing within home insurance that could cover this sort of thing, to save you paying out for the warranty? Or does it just cover damage?

 

If it breaks, damage it totally whilst moving it during decorating and then claim on the house insurance
