Default Tubular header people

Just wondering what differences you saw / felt to the car after fitting. what was affected, power, spool up, noise, etc?

Gas anyone felt like or knowingly lost spool up running a big header system on a vf/td05 16/18g? also what turbo are you running with your headers?

Hi Jon,

sadly mine went on with a bigger turbo... but they are supposed to give better mid-range and top-end performance. Especially with a bigger turbo, on the std. item they can negatively affect spool-up. Mine sounds louder and different.

Try the last 5 seconds....

spools about 300/400 rpm slower when i went to gt spec 2 headers and up pipe on a td0516g. Meant to give more torque though once spooled up

affected spool-up by + 200rpm, gave me 20lbsft midrange torque and the extra grunt on the road was noticable. I'm just running about 340bhp so the top-end wasn't much improved. If Ihad a bigger turbo and going for 400 they would help more then

I have RCM headers fitted to mine, there was no difference in spool, but midrange and top end power/torque was definately improved on, the sound on full boost is a loud howl similar to late JDM twins scroll cars

i fitted magnex headers on my vf34'd classic last week and on boost it is alot louder as the turbo sucks in air...... either that or ive got a leak somewhere
Getting a new map done so hopefully show decent gains over 289bhp an 270lbs torque, not too bothered about loosing out a little bottom end

I have tubular headers fitted, i found the sound was abit raspier around the header area, i guess it could be down to lack of heat sheilds muffling the noise, but found spool about the same, but abit more grunt an pulled harder when turbo kicked in

lost 15bhp and gained 40lbft after fitting scoobyclinic headers and up-pipe, although that was after Andy F mapped it. The previous map was done on rollers and done purely to produce as much hp as possible, it drove pants on the road!

Wink

I used Harvey smith ported o/e headers & matched up pipe with my 20g. As harvey said up to 400bhp there the dog's dangly bit's he was right. I felt the improvement straight away much better spool aprox 500rpm early'r. I then fitted a 2.5 & now next to no lag well pleased a car you can corner with on the right foot.

Jon, when you get to 16/18g sized turbos I think tubular headers are worthwhile.
