Default Greenlight Insurance rant.....

Sorry in advance for the long post. As some of you may know my car is currently in the process of having a 2.1 stroker fitted along with a few other bits and pieces.

Anyway I have just called Greenlight Insurance who I have been with for a couple of years without incident to sort out adding the modifications onto the policy which is fine. They asked me what power the car should make so I said around 360BHp which is where it is now, It may produce slightly more torque but I cant imagine it making much more HP as the twin scroll VF37 is already working very hard as it is!! They came back and said if it is no more than 360 it will cost £25 to change details great I thought. So I said thinking ahead (turbo in the future)how much would it be if it was 400BHP they came back with £195 to change the policy over again not the end of the world.

So I said I will accept the £25 and was about to give them the payment details when he said they need a dyno graph to prove the power. Thats fine I said but obviously not until its run in as I dont want it to go bang just to prove to you that its making 360. NO they need it before they will insure it so I cant even drive it to run it in. So in essence I have to take the risk of potentially being uninsured whilst running it in which to me seems crazy Surely the people that work for these insurance companies must be able to realise that you just cant do somthing like that

Now as I step off my large soap box is it just me or is that one ridiculous ideas ever?

What would you do in the same circumstance?

Needless to say I will be calling Moley_WRX on Monday

Time for a me thinks

I thought of that but then what happens if they discover that it actually produces more than 55bhp will they void the insurance?

I dont know why they cant give you like a 3-4 week breather like they do with the no claims that you have to provide, but I suppose its just there way of doing it! Seems bonkers to me though

I'm with them .. the only complaint I have is how long it took last time I called for a quote but they came back with an excellent quote .. all mods included so

Spelt my name wrong on the first docs and sent a replacement next day..

As a broker they are somewhat cr*p. I took out insurance for my 99 UK car, with a few mods, paid the quote, which was reasonable, but they did ask for a lot of documentation, which I thought was bordering on excessive.

I asked about adding my wife to the policy in case she needed to use it in an emergency, they agreed, but wanted photocopied drivers license, etc. My other half thought this was just too intrusive and said not to bother. Greenlight threatened to cancel the policy when I asked them to remove her.

I had to take the matter to the underwriter and checked with my wife's main insurer whether the threat was normal practice before Greenlight let it go.

Next year they refused to quote, but I changed to a modded STI and insured for cheaper elsewhere...

I went over millage and like a fool told them {MY GRANDAD WAS IN AND OUT OF HOSPITAL[KIDNEY FAILURE] AND LIVES 60 MILES AWAY, OVER 4 MONTHS I DID A LOT OF MILES I WOULD NOT HAVE DONE NORMALLY,I WASN'T THINKING STRAIGHT AND IM TWO HONEST}.
My cert said if you go over millage it would just double my excess if i had to claim.
when i told them,1st they said my insurance would be void
20 mins he rang back and said i would need to pay more money.
I asked if they could tell me how they came to the new sum and could
i pay in a week and half as thats when i got paid.{this was agreed or so i thought}
next day got a letter saying insurance would be canceled in 7 days.nothing about paying or anything
Rang the insurance company{ as greenlight are middle men} and they said they were being w-----s but they would have to back them,So on mon i rang greenlight,
bloke said sorry but it was all in letter {it wasnt}
{the manager even agreed with me about paying in 2 wks as i made him go over the tape of the conversation had previous}
I paid the monies and they never sent a receipt or anything of how they came to this sum of money and was also told they would never insure me again

[THIS HAS HAPPENED TO A FEW MATES OVER ON CLIO SPORT AS WELL]

[grandad is on dialysis and very well now]

Make your own mind up are they cheap yes

Would i go with them again

insurance companys can be a bit ****.
For example I can get insurance lets say on a classic WRX for about £800 with kwik fit, if i want to save about £100 to go with the "specialists" they demand it to have a Cat 1 alarm, most classic WRX's i've looked at dont have them fitted so I'd have to pay to get one fitted.
Fair enough STI's usually have a Cat 1 but WRX's dont so why do they demand it fitted

Well run on basemap and provide the print out. Then when its run in, dyno it again. If its more let them know and they'll re-adjust your premium.

However, if you only provide a basemap they are highly unlikely to put the car on the dyno if you make a claim. Assuming you are making the claim would indicate the car isn't capable of being put on an RR in the first place
