Default ecu problem

hi i have recently purchased a subaru wrx, which is an early 93 model.
it has a fair few mods such as:

3' straight through exhaust with de-cats
front mounted intercooler
uprated fuel pump
boost actuator valve
hks dump valve
hks air filter
all stainless intercooler pipes
samco hoses

being my first subaru im not really familliar with the engine
its running on a standard wrx sti ecu, i am finding that when it boosts its hitting the fuel cut off. when i give it some boot.
also ive had it checked for detonation and it is fine and isnt running rich but it is doing 120 miles to a tank which i think is crap.
so im thinking could it be the ecu needs changing to a mappable one.

any feedback would be great

rick

Do you get overboost all the time when booting it?
The early ecu maps were a bit crude imo as i used to get overboost on mine then changed it to a later wrx ecu and it's fine (i don't have the mods you do though)
You could reset the ecu (either manually or disconnecting the battery for an hour or so) and see what it's like after that.

Really you need a mappable ecu, a standard wrx sti ecu wont work well, neither will a standard on, the overboosting demonstrates that and it can still cause lean spots in the fuelling.
Also, 120 miles to a tank, these only have 50 ltr tanks, is that town driving, fast driving, mixed etc?

abit of both, im running standard boost as when i use the actuator at 1.2bar it hits the fuel cut quite often.
it did have an apexi ecu but was taken out just before i brought it.
i have been offered a chipped ecu which i mte go for.

So the actuator can turn the boost upto 1.2bar?
Fuel cut for the early ecus is only about 1.05bar

As for chipped ecus i would do a search on here Polarperformance sells a lot of them and the guy (Scott T) posts on here.
