Hey all,

I've got a problem with my water spray and rad spray tanks in that they seem to create a film like substance which floats near the top and can stink a bit. I've used vinegar and that hasn't stopped it, was thinking of some bleach but not sure what that would do to paintwork, even with it watered down?

Anyone else had this and resolved it?

 

Take the tanks off and give them a good scrub out.

 

Eye, I've done that but it comes back. Even bleached them last time for a short period before washing out completely...
Strange substance that comes out though, I guess its cos the water isn't going anywhere for while (as car off t' road)...
Might just leave bleach in the tanks with water and wash out before use her next....pain though.

 

You could always leave them empty till you want to use the car.

 

Ask at a pharmacy about granulated carbon; it's a good absorbent and might help if some is suspended in the tanks in a mesh container. HTH.

 

My brain may be misleading me, but isnt there some stuff you can get for fish tanks and the likes that you add to the water to stop the build up of bacteria?

Ah, never thought of that...I'll speak with my cousin who has lots of fish although I know he keeps stuff clean by pump and filter plus water plants to clean what's left...

I've refilled the lot with bleach and water for now in the hope it will clean the inside walls and stop the stink. Will flush and leave empty at later date unless the above comes through...cheers all.

 

Other option is to add some washer bottle detergent in there, should keep it clean(er)

Hmm, maybe but would my car become a "bubble" car , also persil dish stuff has alcohol or something in it doesn't it so that also would mark the paint over time...guess even water does that with limescale...argh. I've spoken to my "fishy" cousin, he couldn't think of anything apart from pond life and said that wouldn't be good in the boot

Bleach and water it is, then empty for while she's off t' road.

 

Supposedly dont use household bleach but peroxide bleach (hair bleach basically) as that wont damage your paint but you should be ok with washer fluid, just dont put a shed load in there and its normally the chlorine in the water that leaves marks on your intercooler (white deposites) and washer fluid wont harm your paint work

might even throw some fish in there and let them swim around

Thanks Tony, that's it, no more bleach or vinegar, just washer fluid...that stuff never seems to go off with water...top advice.
