Default KS3 Knock Link Setup

I've just got a KS3, but aren't too sure where to bolt the sensor to.

Can anyone give me any pointers please?

Thanks

right hand side of the inlet manifold - there is a spare lug.

Gets a good reading.

On your STi there's an M8 threaded hole on the block, beneath the intercooler on the passenger side(nearside) With slim hands, you can bolt the sensor on without removing the intercooler. The wire to the KL can then go through the bulkhead on the passenger side.
Don't forget, the level of paranoia increases in direct proportion to the number of gizmo's installed (From experience!)

I don't suppose anyone has any pics please?

Dynamix, this spare lug.......will it have been the one JGM will have screwed his det cans in to? As that was on top of the inlet manifold.

Yes, (as long as you haven't got phenolic manifold spacers!!) or the threaded hole directly to the left of your arrow, just visable above the blue pipe. With the FMIC it's a real easy job!

Hi Chris, fuel rails modded, but mine is here...

And knock is the only one that I've "jumped" at - as I hit the rev limiter once !

I see, cheers guys!

Dunx, did you say JGM said to set it at 50, but you have yours set to around 35? Is there much else to set up on them? Just I don't have any instructions.

Cheers

You need to know your piston size for correct setup.

don't remember saying 50.. it varies from car to car.

fit it and see what levels you get.. if it dets it will be a jump in value.. you should see the numbers slowly increase towards the redline..

the piston size along with many other variances will effect the frequency required but tend to find the standard settings work for det detection and can be finely adjusted from there.

Bob, they are just standard pistons in an STI 8.

Simon, I just thought I'd read on hear the Dunx said about 50, but that's probably me being wrong .
Thanks for the tip on setting it up. I see when you mean. It should be a linear rise, but if there is det, it will jump from say 35 up to 80 for example.

Can this setup be done stationary, or should someone drive while I set it up?

Thanks again

Hi Chris,
Simon "suggested" that a value around 50 would be equivalent to a level of "knock" he could hear through the det cans....

So I aimed low for safety, it's only triggered once, when I hit the rev limiter by mistake !

LOL

dunx

P.S. With alerts on a bar graph will scroll across the lower section of the display.
