Default Gearbox Oil.

Hi.

I have recently had the oil changed in the gearbox of my 97 wrx type RA and had standard oil put in. Mistake. The GB really doesn't like it and it is now difficult to change to 5th at speed. I have the car booked in to have the oil replaced to what Subaru have recomended, will this be a mistake too? Should I use Castrol Syntrax. I have read that RA's don't like the Sytrax but have also read it's the best oil too. I'm not sure what to do so please help.

My RA was starting to get a bit notchy, crunching into reverse, sometimes first. I put Syntrax in, and now it's perfect!
The whole car felt different, box was quieter, less vibration on the motorway, slick gear changes. Worth every penny! Just the rear diff to do!

Well I have had the oil changed, my local garage kindly spoke to subaru and got the oil from them. What a differance. The gear change is slick and alot faster. Don't go for the cheap option.

If it's a road car then definately Syntrax IMHO, it has an additive in it to help the baulk rings work efficiently.
