I am going camping soon and need to be able to load up my car with lots of heavy stuff.
Last year i had three different courtesy cars so the weight was not an issue but this time i am having to use the scoob. I am worried as when i have one large female in the back the real wheel rubs on the arch when i go round corners. I don't think my car is any lower than other scoobs but i need to make sure as its a long way to Yorkshire.

btw, i am not taking the large female with me

 

It must be lower or has ****-eyed wheel/tyres sizes fitted if it rubs. I used to load mine to the hilt with beer for cash and carry runs (saloon) and never had an issue with it, even though it was hitting the bumpstops (i.e it wouldn't go any lower).

As for weight distribution; aim to get the bulk of the weight in the center of the car, i.e in front of the rear wheels. so heaviest stuff needs to be pushed to the back of the boot. Of course, humans are the heaviest objects to place in a car, so avoid putting them in the boot.

And don't forget to raise the tyre pressures.

 

hey up mate ive done the camping thing in my scoob ive found the best way is to distribute the heavy stuff around the car ( if you arent taking too many passengers ) that way all the weight isnt in one place , my lass takes everything bar the kitchen sink when we go away and ive only ever had issues when im going fast into corners

I had my car lowered about 35mm when i got it and i was told it will have dropped a little bit more afterwards. I assume that my car is about the same as the turbo scoobs now, mine is a sport.
I bought a 9 man tent last year because it is mahoosive, just my boyfriend, daughter and myself use it. It weighs a ton.

I often go to B and Q and load in bags of 150 ltr compost and topsoil but the bonnet is very high and the car feels very light but its only a 5 minute journey.

Does anyone know how much a classic scoob can carry?

Does anyone know how much a tank of petrol in a classic would weigh? I thought that would have to be taken into consideration too

I must remember to wax my whole body as this will make a bit of difference

If i had a puncture i doubt weather the space saver would get me home, not with the car fully loaded so it would be a waste of space and weight

But i dont know how i would explain it away to the police if i had a puncture on the motorway...

as for the roof rack, wont that be the same as loading the inside of the car weight wise?

 

if you havent got any passengers put the heavy stuff as close to the centre of the car as possible, IE the back seats and get a cargo net to hold it all down £10 for halfrauds.

another option is spring spacers, a plastic or rubber block which sits in the spring and hold the back end up a bit. Fit before loading and then remove at the other end. think halfrauds do them as well!

Roof box is another option but expensive, as you need roof bars as well!

if you plan to do a lot of camping, as said before get the arches rolled and then you dont have to worry or buy a Forester <smug>
