Default PPG Box swap to UK 6 Speed

At the mo i have a PPG 1-4 and uk 5th im my 2.0 wrx.

Now im getting full boost at 4k revs because im running a MD321T 1.8-1.9 bar (Car is running 420bhp).

Now would changing back to a 6 Speed help with spool up at all?

Im all so thinking about changing it as i am now driving the car a
lot more were i was not before and the wine dose not bother me too much but is a pain when others are in the car with me.

Any info would be great!

If anyone dose have a good 6 speed and is looking for a ppg let me know how much you would be happy to give me on top with your box to take mine off me?

Mine was rebuilt by slow boy racing about 5 months ago.

Ash

The gearbox isn't going to determine how the turbo works.

It might liven up the car to drive, as you'll be throwing gears at it more, but probably accelerating slower overall, especially as it adds 30kg. If you need to improve the spoolup of a 321t on a 2.5 then I think you have bigger problems than what gearbox to use.

Hahahah!

Yes that will teach me to not pay attention!

Same physics still apply. If you want close gears to match a narrow powerband then 6 speed will do it, but you want a JDM so that you don't have the big gap from 4th to 5th.

The car is a 2LT and see's full boost on the road around 4200, the gearing however is not well suited to this set up and can detract from the general feel.

The 6 speed will increase the "feel" through the gears, but as said won’t improve on spool up its self.

I would consider changing the MD for a better matched 2LT turbo, or making use of your switchable maps for now?

For a quieter ride you need to trash those subs not your box, weight saving too

As Neil has said above a better suited turbo would be more responsive with your set-up, the 321T works well on the AVCS equipped STi's but not so good without. It is possible to improve the response on your set-up yet you will lose elsewhere, there's no magic formula and there will always be a trade off.

The other option is an increase in displacement...

To put things into perspective, I ran my standard engine STi with a 321T at the first round of Time Attack 2008 and finished 11th

Ash,

I'd look at either a smaller Turbo or some headwork and cams.

You'll still have spool issues no matter what gearbox you're using.

The six speed will just feel quicker rather than actually being quicker.

Would love to be able to afford a PPG for my scoobs or even get it to 400bhp, but when I hear stories from owners who are not happy after spending loads of money on there cars to get big power, it kind of makes me wonder if its all worth it. I spent loads of money in the past on some of my Evo's and scoobys, and to be honest I was never happy you always end up sacrificing the driverbility of the car for the need for speed!!!!

Iv got this problem just now and its killing me on the 1/4 mile. am getting 13.2 but it die's about 30m from the end and am literly losing seconds.

Iv got knockhill on 7th march so lets see how that go's and if that kills me then new box time.

What you need is my box then! 130 at 7k revs in 4th, no need for 5th gear
