Default How much at risk is a Imprezza? A myth?

Ok I own a Forester and live in central Manchester (no jokes about farmland please!)

I like the Impreza however I also like discreet (would debadge and run a smaller wing/car in a dark colour etc). Thing is, should I be worried about people mugging me for my keys or burgling my house etc to get at them?

Do you know a mate of a mate who its happened to? Should I man the F8ck up?

No don't worry about it. The people who do that only want nearly new STI's and get them from out Stockport way. Although my friend lives in Moss Side and his neighbour had his car taken by burglary for an older classic; that was 5 or 6 years ago though now.

See, by not buying a car that you like, because someone may mug you, you are already letting the criminals win, they have a mental edge over you....

You want a car, you buy it simple as that. If a scum wants to steal it, then let him get on with it. People in places such as England need to learn about respect, mainly, not to covet ones belongings. Its a real shame that such scum exist

Like you say in your last sentence, not to such an extent as to "man the f*ck up", but just get on with life, buy a car that you like, if someone tries to steal it, oh well, they will get their comeuppance one day

Well said, if its goin to happen it will, all you can do is hope that the car will get dumped and the po-po will find it. Awful shame when your pride n joy does get nicked.. but wot goes around comes around!

I agree with what has been said above if you want an Impreza buy one:-

I had an attempted car hijack when I had my MY98 Wagon

My house was broken into to get the keys when I had my WR1 (they left empty handed as the numb nuts managed to arm, then set off the house alarm and scared themselves off).

My WR1 was stolen in 2006 from Donington Park.

BUT I still have an Impreza! If I didn't they would have won.......

donny, santa pod and any shows are becomeing an issue, thieves target them due to how many different models etc are not only on show, but also in the car parks, bit like a supermarket for thieves

It was some other way. They broke in, disabled the tracker etc.,.. The car was in the competitors car park no more than 100 yards from the security guard in his cosy warm hut, needless to say he 'claimed' he had heard and seen nothing.......

People kicking in doors for high performance cars in Manc is far too common. So too are car-jackings.

I was held up at gunpoint in Coventry and a friend of mine in Manc had his door kicked in a and was attacked with knives.

You either steer clear of high performance cars or buy them with the knowledge that you'll be at higher risk than the average car.

I've had my 04 impreza for 18 mths now. Now I live in rural Bradford-miles away from the dreadful city centre and bearing in mind the inhabitants are as bad as it gets.

My car is parked in the city centre- albeit works car park most days.

consider this is a city that tops the list of non insured drivers- some postcode areas are as high as 62% !!!!!!!!

the whole place is full of idiot yoof's pretending to be gansta's.

my take- well it surprises a lot of the yoof- to see me driving an impreza.

also I'm trying to be subtle. its black, I have no drainpipe exhaust, no stickers or crap stuck to it, no daft light conversions, no crappy stereo bouncing out rave. i.e I don't drive about courting for trouble.

to be honest- best thing- is all the pond life don't try and burn you up at lights/overtake- as they seem to think no point.

as oppose to in all the other cars I've had- they did. they prob think I'm a drug dealer like the rest of them so leave me alone.

I do lock myself in, in some areas I drive through- tbh, more to protect my fiance really.

There are far higher risk vehicles than Imprezas. The Transit van is one of them.
As the thief will inevitably need keys these days, its the victim who attracts the target more often than the car.
The fact they have a desirable car makes them more attractive

I gather that the people in Bradford who used to drive around in subarus and evo's have now moved on to big Audi's and since no one seems to like the new MY08 accept their owners maybe its a safer car to have for now

Wrong.

If the car is quick, looks like an easy target then they will try and nick it no matter where you live in Manchester. Trust me.

OP You need to consider where you live and where the car will be parked. Is it an easy target?

The P1 is an awesome car. May see you around.

The risk is no more then for other performance car owners, M series BMW, EVOS or RS audis...... for example. If you are worried about crime then stick to run of the mill cars or build a sleeper, get a M series BMW, for example, and remove any outstanding features like lips and spoilers and badges..........

Did you post up about this on here? I'm sure I heard this before at Donnington?

Wasn't there a Red classic that was stripped in front of everyone also?

Well said.

I would never put my car before my family. That's what I do. If they want it that much and willing to take the **** by entering YOUR home in the first place they can have the car. No way on earth would I risk my family for the sake of a car.

Same goes for any other part of the country. Round Manchester, Scally's want to nick something that's easy pickings (Saab turbo, Rover Vitesse, Astra's etc)
More organised gangs don't want old Subaru's that are going to fall apart when they are getting chased from the plod.
Trust me!

Yes I did as apart from anything else it was taken on the practice day for the BTCC and I wanted to warn anyone coming that Saturday or Sunday what had happened.

This was an awful thing although luckily they didn't come in. It could of been worse!
I suppose the nicer area you are in the more likely it is.

Just get PMS Security signs outside your house and you won't even need an alarm on it!
