Calling Spec D owners
Guys,
My MD picks up a used spec D tomorrow, and is his first dive into Subaru ownership, although he has always had fast cars.
What are the benefits / downfalls to this model - he reckons it feels fairly quick, but not as quick as he expected - also very quiet. He is already talking about upgrades - any reccommendations / comments.
Cheers in advance,
Mart.

No badges, spoilers, full leather interior, extra sound proofing, funky blue tooth stereo and a sat nav unit. Ltd edition model but nothing more special than those above things.
Cheers

Add lower grill, silver wheels and fog lights to the above list and that's it. It is basically an STI in the guise of a WRX SL.
Change the centre pipe and it will get the sound/burble back.
Performance is as standard the same as the STi, which shouldn't feel slow. You can tweak it slightly as I have done, which transforms it for a couple of grand. If it's a motorway car for him though, not sure I would bother.

The Spec D makes a good starting point for a slightly different tuned STi, I am running approximately 400bhp and 420 lb/ft torque which makes for a very driveable every day road car.
See my Plus Profile for the spec.

What kind of twin scroll do you have on the Spec D? Standard JDM one?

That is just an SUL map.
To give you an idea how driveable it is, my Spec D was the car that came 3rd in the Handling Competition at Scooby Shootout 08 and in the qualifying stage was only 0.7 of a second slower than the RCM Gobstopper around the handling course.

It was the handling competition we actually really went to take part in but we did do about four 1/4 mile runs and it did a 12.78
It is quite heavy with the leather interior, air con, extra sound proofing etc.,..

Robin
