Default JDM import

I have searched and am as confused as ever.

I live in Thailand and am getting a local engine importer to special order me a 2 liter JDM engine directly from Japan. The importer is clueless so I need to specify the engine model, year, and all parts required for a transplant into a Speedster replica. The most available JDM engines range from 04 to current, but older ones can be had.

Questions:
1. Are immoblisers fitted to JDM cars. If so, what year did this ocurr?
Do I just need the ECU, key and ignition

2. Is the throttle now drive by wire and if so when did this occur.

3. I need to insure that I get everything necessary, but a 1/2 cut is out for duty and tax reasons. Presumably this includes the ECU, wiring harness, and immobliser bits in question 1 - anything else? This will be a one shot deal as the only Suby Dealer stocks nothing, and Suby parts are very rare.

4. 280 HP is lots for me in a light car, and I do not intend to modify the engine. I want the best high HP engine for the buck - what should I specify?

5. Fuel here is E-10 gasohol with an octane of 95. Note this is an average of the MON and RON methods. Will the engine run on this fuel with the stock ECU?
Any problems with E-10?

JDM cars don't have immobilisers!
Get a 280bhp one but it will need running at 99/100ron otherwise you will be looking for another engine soon. Unless you get it mapped to accept 95...

Some MY05 onwards JDM do have imobilisors fitted, the MY05 JDM STi does have it as standard, the MY05 JDM spec C and WRX doesnt. I think drive by wire came in the MY07, not 100% on that, the MY05 isn't drive by wire.

The JDM's come with a map based around 100RON, they have a lot of knock retard available compared to earlier spec setups but I'd want a remap to run on 95RON, so if you cant get an EcuTek remap easily it may pay to buy an aftermarket ECU and remap that. Make sure you buy one that can control the AVCS cams.

An earlier spec engine without the AVCS may be easier to implement, plenty of ECU options for those.
