hi im in need of some advice before i take the car back on the road.any help will be grateful.i own a 95 wrx turbo import completley standard even exhaust standard at the moment .the problem is its been sitting in a garage for a year and been cleaning her up and now puttin car back on road this week started her up today and when i rev quite alot of water comes out of the exhaust engine sounds fine no over heating either .is there any thing i can do so i dont blow the engine before i take it for a proper test drive im not too clever when it comes to engines.what should i do before i run the car really plzzz help

 

The water is likely to be condensation. Did you leave the hand brake off?
Sticky callipers may be another problem.

Oh and give it a full service ASAP inc timing belt if it's due soon...

how dry was the garage it was stored in? should not have that much condensation i would have thought but then it has been cold and damp recently so no big deal.
definatley at least change the oil and check the brakes are all free and check tyres they can develop flat spots if left standing for long periods especially if they have gone flat. then a good few runs will bring it back to life

 

The main thing to worry about are the tyres unless it's been jacked up or on stands.

If the brakes seize, you free them off take it carefully or strip and reassemble. This can be frustrating but not normally terribly dangerous.

Check the tyres over very carefully in daylight. If the pressures are low, take the wheels off and inspect the tyres where the car's been standing on them.

as above with the tyres and an oil change, but get some fresh fuel in before you drive it hard as the fuel in the tank can go off and affect it's octane.

 

Complete service, check the tyres, and the water I wouldn't worry about as of yet as no garage is dry.

 

It is only a year and i used to lay my old Austin Healey up for that amount of time in a barn.

If already started then no point in spinning it over with the plugs out to prime the oilways.

Oil and filter change
Pump the brakes on and off a bit.

Take for a stready drive as if running it in for 30-50 miles or so and check the brakes early on with plenty of space around you, few emergency type stops.
check the oil level whist out driving.

The water is likely condensation build up and it can be quite a bit in a big diameter system.

be gentle for the first 100 miles or so.

 

thank u all for your replies my next thing to do is im getting new alloys any way before shes going on road .so oil change and filter aswell thanks alot every one who replied . as my heart sank yesterday when i saw the water lol thanks again

 

i left mine for a couple of months, all i did was change the oil and start her up. left the brakes off when i did it so no problems there, after a couple of runs, and a long one, its fine now.
