Could someone confirm from what years were ECU's mappable? With the exception of pre 1996 as I know these can be done with the addition of a chip.

I'm on the lookout of another Impreza TURBO/WRX/STI (finally) and want to steer clear of anything that will require an aftermarket ECU if I decide to map.

Any ecu from sept 98 onwards can be mapped using the standard one

I know, it's about bloody time. I've been working on the missus for months and she is finally beginning to see (my) sense. Won't be long and she'll crack.

All ECU's from 1998 onward would need to be replaced to take a map, or just the MY98?

 

Any ecu prior to 98 would need an aftermarket one, anything post 98 or version 5 can be mapped no problem.

1993 - 1996 (four plug ECU) Can be mapped with the addition of a chip or replacement ECU.

1997-1998 (3 plug ECU) Is this the one where the only option is to replace the whole thing?

1998 - Present / Version 5 onward can be mapped.
