Default Speed camera flash from the front??

i got flashed from in front
in a 30mph, speedo was showing around 40 and as soon as i noticed the road markings for speed cam, i quickly applied brakes..

Immediately after braking, i saw 2 flashes from the camera in front. it was a gatso facing me but road markings in both lanes..

no car except me in that area...

it hapened to me once maybe 1 yr ago somewhere else and i received nothing.
this thing is not supposed to flash in front is it???

this morning, i had removed my front number plate and put it inside the windscreen as it was a bit loose on the bracket
i hope the wiper blades obstructed the letters on the plate

There are some of these on the A556 Cheshire and I am sure they flash from the front.
You should know within the next 14 days.

I've actually had this from a Gatso on the other side of the road (definately a Gatso not a Truvelo as they don't flash brightly but use an invisible IR flash otherwise they would blind the drivers).
As with you Underworld not a car in sight coming the other way and nothing ever happened.

Unless they've changed, Truvelo's only have three tiny strips across the road.

I've set off a normal gatso coming the "other way" (tbh I'm not convinced I was going over the speed limit either, I had just pulled out of a junction and acceleted quickly), pretty sure you won't get done ( if it was a normal gatso - was it on the other side of the road or on your side?)

Im not sure they are allowed to flash you from the front, it may cause a distraction to the driver and then an accident (or blind the driver for a second or two).
Are the forward facing camera's not infra red film?

cameras that flash brightly are for the other side of the road. you will not get a fine. it is only truvelos that can get you head on. by law cameras are not allowed to flash on coming traffic as it could cause you to crash. i wouldnt worry about it mate

GATSOs can detect (if so configured) forward facing violations, but they arent Home Office approved to do so in this country. Truvelo cameras only flash once and the flash is far from invisible.

Obviously I don't know the road you speak of, but I don't think it's particularly clever to seem almost proud you may have got away with this.

I for one am the first to argue over stupid limits, but I don't think you should be smug about this. It's not like speeding in a higher zone, this was a 30 afterall. Like I say it could be yet another lower than possibly necessary road, but it may well have been that limit for a reason. Only imo.

I was flashed (double flash) by a GATSO right by my house that I drive past every day! heading towards it late to pick the ex-missus up from the statuion and due to the earful I was getting on the phone (Hands free!) wasn't paying attention was doing 35-40is towards the camera. It went off and no points etc.
I know the camera was live as a mate was done the next day coming to see me going the other direction!

Thats because they arent approved for forward facing violations. They shouldnt be configured to activate either, but some knobber at a quango thought that he was being clever.

It happened to me a few years ago, in the middle of the night.
Wondered what had happened, it was so bright and blinded me for a few seconds.

There should be a law to stop them going off in the face of oncoming traffic.

i thought they can get you from the front to stop all these people saying it was my step mothers brothers sons uncle driving and wasn't me so they have photographic evidence who was driving .
i dont mind as long as i catch it aware and get a good picture of me

i thought i got caught by a traffic cam in nottingham but nothing as of yet and thats nearly 3 weeks

I agree Lisa, it is nothing to appear smug about.

Also stating you removed the number plate because it 'was loose' and then using a whole host of smilies makes me think it was intentional.

Anyway onto the original question I don't thint Gatso's are used forward facing so I would imagine that you will be ok, unless it was the other type and you mistook the camera type....either way you'll find out on all points if you get a letter.

Depends on the 30 limit. Around here some of the speed limits are ridiculously low, mostly the ones which have been recently changed.
