Default Drivetrain locked up this morning on drive way

I've had the Impreza sat still for a week in the recent cold weather and the pst couple of times I've had to almost drop the clutch to get it moving. There's an almighty crack as 'something' breaks from being stuck and then she's fine. Never happened before apart from this week.

It's not the brakes as I left the handbrake off the second time so it has to be something on the drive train. Also when the car was stationary in the cold the DCCD wheel was VERY stiff so i'm assuming all this is down to the cold.

Has anyone else had this recently?

I would say it's rusty discs, happens to all cars that get left standing in this wetaher..... esp when they've salted the roads...!!

Handbrake shoes, without a doubt. Leave it chocked or on a level area without handbrake when it's wet.

Guys, the handbrake was not engaged. Would this still be a factor?

always happens to me after i wash it, handbrake is never on either. i just assumed it was the pads binding to the rusty disk?
it always seems to grip the front more so i guessed pads/disks.

Have the same issue with mine if its left standing. Although I don't drop the clutch to solve it Reverse is the best way to free the brakes, just make a reasonable attempt to move in reverse. If that fails, just gently rock the car until it cracks.

If it proves to be too much of an annoyance, then try fitting different pads.

Often happens on mine (and the S2000) when I've washed it, then left it in the garage for a day or two. Nothing to worry about IMO...
