Hi guys

Had a bit of a smash yesterday on a slippy wet road, brakes just locked up and kept going!! anyway everyone is ok as it was only at 10/15 mph but my pride and joy is not in a good way. front bumper damaged,bonnet,front wing,light smashed and one of my brand new 18 white alloys has a huge graze on it!
The car was a stunning 96 import which has all facelift parts plus all tuning parts etc.. im just so gutted as ive owned the car for 2 years (daily driver)and never even had a sniff of a accident and i was thinking of selling in the new year for a new car !

I really cant afford to repair the car and ive already spent silly money on it to get the car looking sweet , i didnt reallty want to claim on insurance as my excess is silly and i loose precious no claims plus all the hastle of waiting 10 years to finally get sorted. I just want to forget and move on so my question is whats the best way to sell the car? shall i sell as it is? what would it be worth as it is? the car drives fine just looks a mess from the front. shall i break the car? even though lots of the good parts ie facelift bonnet,facelift frontbumper with p1 lip,lights etc are dead?

sorry for the long speech but i always seem to get good advice on here so any info would be greatv

probably only worth 1k-1.5k as it is these cars only go for between 2-3k in excellent condition.If i was in your position and i had the time/space id break it as there are always people looking for parts and the chances are you would get more money in parts than if the car was in pre accident condition

thanks matey , i do have time to break but not sure i will get much for the rest of the car, like i said the main goodys are damaged.

If you wer going to get rid anyway then just get wing and bumper and bonnet from breakers - ebay Get face lift ones and even if you dont paint it - it is not too bad as it wold be in that state if you had just changed the front end anyway before it was painted. Losts of people sell cars on that are not 100% finished projects. Thing is you gonna have to make it look half decent if you want to sell / part ex it. It is the paint and prep that will cost you - £300 + for OK front end spray - more like £500 though.

Get the panels replaced / and the wheel refurbed and sell it on - or break it.

Have to say if it was me then I would fix it and keep it. (only cus I think you aint going to get another car you like for the money and you also know it's past.

 

Just to let you know - have just been looking on ebay for you and you can get the bonnet, wing and Sti bumper all for about £250 - is well worth doing mate - then get it painted when you have the cash

 

thanks for replys guys, thing is i just bought the bonnet,front bumper and grill and had them sprayed about a month ago , plus had the wing resprayed because of a few dents which all in all cost me around 600 + i cant really go through all that again. for what its worth id rather just let it go and move on. i love the car to bits (maybe to much) but was thinking of selling anyway just wonderd if id get more breaking it than just selling her how she stands now?

 

TBH you will be left with loads of parts no-one wants if you break it.

are you daft?

just claim on your insurance, thats what it's there for. Otherwise it's worth a grand. If you lose your no claims, but get the car fixed thats surely a better deal for you?

 

Gutted for you mate, looked awesome pre accident, as said above you can get the parts relatively cheap, get it done will make the car worth more when you sell.

 

yes mate i am daft , but not daft enough to pay out £900 excess and have my no claims bonus affected so ill have silly insurence quotes from then onwards. insurence companys will do out to not pay up and if they decide not to im stuck with car d or c whatever its to much hastle i cant be doing with! classic scoobs are worth **** all these days so im not that woreid about how much im gonna get just whats going to be easyer and maybe better for a few extra quid? ive spent way too much already to just go and spend more then not get it back when i sell. thanks for the advice guys ,really apreciate it.

 

You do understand that you have to declare this accident on your renewal dont you? which will add to your policy.
Not declaring it will invalidate your insurance, you may then face a hefty fine and 6 points on your licence.
If you buy the car and insure it, use the insurance, if the car becomes a cat c they will write it off, if its a d then whats your problem? you have already said that classics are worth **** all, so take **** all from **** all and you have **** all

If you want to follow the exact wording of the terms accidents and claims this would be the same for damage to a wing mirror, scuffing a wheel, open your door and chipping the paint etc etc.

As said try getting the parts in the right colour and then see what can be done based on the damage but be consider the resale cost as this will need to be factored in.

I'd start by saving some cash & get it off road asap ...declare it SORN (& get your tax back) & drop the Ins. to F&T only

Then i'd set up a few ebay searches for the bits & bobs in the right colour (black isn't that rare) & sit tight ...as you wouldn't really want to try & sell a car at the mo' (combined worst time of year & a 'credit crunch')

Breaking it will probably take about 6 months if you want to make the most out of it

& no, i wouldn't be informing my Ins. Co either!

 

It may hurt the next person who buys that car if the repairs have not been done to a good standard or something has been missed
