Petrol or shell V-power in my new WRX Type RA?
I'm getting my new 95 wrx type-ra this saturday (just been imported
)
Was just wondering can you run it on normal unleaded petrol? or is it just v-power petrol?
Silly question I know but I just want to be sure lol Thanks in advance

v-power & tesco super-99 are higher octane than regular 95octane unleaded, this allows the motor to run with more ignition advance before detonation, (more power before eating pistons), if the car was mapped for high octane fuel (iirc, jap petrol is 100ish octane) then use tesco-99 or v-power until you get it mapped for regular (should you want to use regular), if you can't get any 99octane, then take it easy until you can. best to get it mapped too.

You dont need to run 100RON fuel for a 1995, it wasnt available in Japan then, after all. If the car was mine Id stick to Tesco 99RON or V-Power, with the Shell product being my preference.
If its a 1995 STI Type-RA then Id be a little more concerned and I would certainly fit a KnockLink. That wouldnt be bad advice for any imported Saloon though, as the quality of fuel is far from stable.

I'd say Tesco 99
I was loyal to V-power for years and ignored everything that people said about Tesco 99 being better for a few reasons.
I've just recently given Tesco 99 a try mainly cos it was about 7p-8p a litre cheaper than V-Power at the time.
I couldn't say if the car is more powerful or not but it seems smoother and the knock figures seem lower aswell.
That'll do for me

100 octane was not introduced until a couple of years after your car was made.
Has the car been modified engine wise (i.e. aftermarket ecu, higher boost setting etc) if so then the above comments should be heeded

I always use whatevers cheapest from whatever supermarket/station that gives me points/tokens/vouchers etc.
no idea about old jap imports though. can't say it would matter one bit, as god knows what the cars been run on in 13 years or how its been looked after.

Would it not pay to have it remapped as soon as it arrives ?
Maybe an aftermarket ECU with V Power..... that would be worth looking into I feel.

After reading all the comments I won't be using normal unleaded lol it will be a spin off between tesco 99 and shell v-power. I'll give both a little tested and see if theres any difference. Thanks guys you've been a big help

I always run mine on Tesco 99 or V-Power... It just seems to love it! Ran it once on normal unleaded and it seemed to be less responsive and ran like a bag of nails...
I never used to believe the hype about higher octane fuels but you can definetly tell with the Impreza... Now I am converted! :-)

when you decide to start spending do it on the brakes first, then some suspension mods rather than the Clarkson school of POWAH
Its got alot off stuff done to it already, bigger brakes, full cage, full zeal suspention. I don't really want anymore power out off it atm just want it to run 100% thats why i originally asked about the fuel lol I'll have a look into the simtek ecus and see what there about
for the little diff u save is it really worth putting in c**p fuel, it not a chav nova, the fuel makes a diff in scoobys, if u can afford to run a scooby then u must be able to afford the better fuel,

Version 5/6 sti etc had the 100 ron fuel map.. (I THINK)
