We've all done tweaks to our cars over the years, sometimes we do a great job and sometimes we don't.

None of us would deliberately set out to do something that would make our car unsafe, but I think it is worth remembering the consequences of not doing the job right.

If nothing else, get a clued-up mate to check your work on your brakes, suspension, steering, wheels and tyres BEFORE you let rip!

It will be too late when you are sitting on the side of the road weeping into your hands AFTER a serious accident that was YOUR fault.

Being honest, having being caught out by a popular well advertised brand of brake pads which are inferior to factory pads. This could have happened to me (well, it very nearly did).

In my case my car wouldn't stop properly when the brakes were cool. Which is a situation that happens suprisingly very often in city driving or when cruising. Of course I "could" pass the blame on to the manufacturers, but then they would put it back to me for not ensuring they were working OK.

And also I would be liable for driving the car in due respect of its capabilities and condition. And not adjusting the driving style to suit.

 

I think the fact he was doing 60mph in a Land Rover (which is pushing it on any road in one of those things) along a single track road next to a river may have had a bearing on it. He was a reckless, irresponsible **** and tragically paid with the lives of some innocents.

To be honest driving in any impreza could kill our children as they are such fast machines, let alone putting mods on!

Plus that guy done all his himself, NOT to a good, safe standard. At least when we do ours we take such care most will have qualified garages do work or they'll do it themselves and Won't bodge it up, like he did

 

That's why i only trusted myself with the De-tango and mudflaps.

Not giving the guy an excuse, as any technically competent person should be able to install components on his or her vehicle, but if you've seen some of the bodges performed by young mechanic's that i've seen you wouldn't trust anyone to work on ur car.

I think the diferent brakes on each side of the car is deplorable.

I feel really sad for the other siblings and the mother.

Interestingly the TV footage showed the Land Rover running through a tight cone slalom at nearly 30 mph and although it was jacked up on its suspension and had a heavy roof rack on, it was surprisingly stable, much more than I would have thought from the pix I'd seen.

Anyway, I've made my point - some will take heed, and some couldn't give a sh*t, but that's just situation normal on SN.
