hi guys

can somebody please tell me whats the diffrence between an sti v4 and sti v5engine? and is it ok to ask which engine is better/stronger.

In power terms they are the same. The later, version 5, uses different heads and pistons to the Version 4 - but achieves the same result. In simple terms it is just an upgrade of the earler model.

A 5 will not go in place of a 4 easily and ditto vice versa. It can be done but what a load of hassle.

There are arguments that Vers 3/4 have better cams fitted than Vers 5/6. Again it is just a matter of upgrades and they achieve the same results in my opinion.

Pre September 98 cars need Vers 4 and post September 98 need Vers 5 That's the one fixed rule.

does this mean a complete v4 sti engine will not be a straight forward fit into a subaru P1 for example.

Exactly, It can be made to fit - but it will not be easy and will cause various headaches mechanically and electronically. Unless you are the owner of the only P1 Subaru in Outer Mongolia and all you have is a vers 4 engine available - don't do it......
