Does anyone have any experience of declaring mods with Direct Line? Just wondering before I phone Direct Line and ask them...

Not good Plus, you need a tracker with them, or the 'theft' part of the policy is void.

They ask for a tracker for a WRX but not for an STI...

I've got a tracker anyway but must be a glitch in their system, my policy docs didn't ask for proof either....

You got 2 threads going? I answered this one once!!

Keith Michaels, Ask for Gary Moulson 0208 288 0275 - A lot of people on here are insured through him. He has a WRX. Don't think he's there today though, had heard he was going to Brands Hatch today.

That's probably because STIs have trackers as standard?

The problem with the big companies, is that most of their staff don't understand modifications. Try explaining that you have replaced the standard droplinks, and all they can do is put 'suspension modification'.

Thats why a backbox change which doesn't affect BHP results in a large premium rise, all they have to choose from is 'stainless steel exhaust'.

If you are modifying you are far better off with someone like Gary at Keith Michaels, or Greenlight. At least you will be sure that if you describe the modifications correctly they won't quibble come payout time. They will probably cover your mods as well.

When I first insured with Privilege, I told them I had a WR Sport backbox which didn't affect bhp, and they said it didn't matter. When I renewed I pointed it out again, and they said it was an extra £150, and I hadn't been correctly covered for the previous year!!!!!

And the specialists generally don't require a Tracker subscription - saving you over £100 a year for a start.

It begs the question, How many people on here are driving around with undeclared modifications and are hence, technically not insured?

That's the good thing with Gary. All mods declared and still cheaper than Admiral who I was with before

Oh i'd say shed loads, i insure my Escort cossy with LIFESURE, and declared mods. Woodford 340, but actually RnR'd and making 376.3 and shed loads of mods. Over 20k worth and they agreed a valuation and were the cheapest by nearly £370.

I worked for Directline for 4.5 years mate, doing motor claims. They don't really like mods, and they won't insure you with mods if you're under 25. If you have undeclared mods, and have to claim, the normal procedure is to back date the policy to when the mods were added, and then they will charge you an additional premium.

What are your mods? Like has been said, maybe better to find a specialist insurer, as i think with a lot of big companies, they are not too keen on modifications.

Use the Direct Line No 0845 2468701 for performance modifications. No guarantee but you should talk to someone that has some idea.
