New M5 Acelleration
Comming home from work tonight and came behind one of these things. My speed was 80-90 and this thing waited till things were clear and disappeared. Forget your audi RS4's these are a different league.

Haven't tried it all day and night, but on our last Nurburghring trip I spent some time sightseeing in Germany and we didn't drop under 165 for well over an hour on various sections of our late night journeys. It is surreal driving over there really, such an amazing place to drive, their driver education is just on another level to ours.
Also, we didn't see a single car with a wheel brace being waved out of a window by a red faced angry spitting motorist because we had committed the crime of wishing to pass them, nor did anyone slam his brakes on or generally slow down on purpose just to ensure we are delayed. LOL
Mines the earlier 2003 E39 M5 as you know, great car, even greater engine. The New E60/61 M5 engine is a technological marvel but sadly the short stroke that was required to give it its horsepower has damaged the torque curve somewhat and she is very much harder and less relaxed to drive than the older one (Until you rev her). Nothing however, that a brace of turbochargers couldn't fix.
The rest of the car is on another level though as expected.
I can confirm that the M5 is 2nd to none in pure straight line acceleration.
I drive these on a regular basis as I work for a prestige and performance Accident Management company. I drive them all.. Rs4's M3's aswell as your real prestige - Ferrari, Bentley, Aston Martin and the M5 will do virtually them all in a straight line.
MPG forget it .. I had one over the weekend a few weeks back and it returned 11 MPG. If you want the truth I'd rather have a 535d much better overall and still a flier..
But keep the M5 in the garage for track days..

my mate alex has a new m5 ,he raced a 450bhp scooby and struggled, the scooby edged in front in every gear ,a very close race so he tells me ,but obviously on alonger road his top end would have beaten the scooby.

Makes sense, the M5 isn't actually that fast when you look at its power to weigh ratio. However, when you look at the spec, you see where the weight has come from, and the cabin is one of the nicest places to be in motoring history. Its near as dammit perfect bar being a tad porky. lol
Mental car the M5 - I took my mom out in it ( 60 years old ) and put it "M" mode.. At the 1st corner she nearly snuffed it when the active seat pinched her **** and hips..
I was behind a new shaped M5 and we were at silly speeds in the bends and he wouldn't pull over for me and a ferrari 430
granted the two would leave me top end but they won't up to high 3 figures

Steven, is anything at all, bar light, faster than your Scoob, or do you refuse to back down mate
P.s. You'll have to take me for a drive one day, such is the legend
Its the only time I have ever raced after a car as I usually never bother, but when there was an M5 a ferrari 430 and a porsche 911 turbo all chasing after each other, I defy anyone not to want to join in
edited to say when the car is running properly I want to come across a zonda

E39 M5 is my ideal real world car, I think the new one is too technofied for me. Quite fancy a new M3 now they've brought out the 4 door, just wish they did an estate version.
BTW, I know your passionford background, but do you own a scoob now too? Sorry if I've missed something obvious, just interested.

E39 M5 has been my proposed ideal all round car for many years and i am proud to own one as my daily runner.
Its a real wolf in sheeps clothing. I drive all manner of sports cars day in day out and have driven quite a few E60/61 M5s and whilst they are an amazing car and id love one, they have lost something raw, and i must admit as a day to day car they arent quite as good as the E39 due to that lack of torque, but wow, what a machine when you gun it! I will have one one day...
Great M5 Vid..
