Downpipe....help

Can anyone help with a problem I'm having with a downpipe I've bought.
Went to the garage to get it fitted and they said it is the wrong fitment at the end that leads to the centre pipe.
It a sort of a flange with like a oliver at the start of the centre pipe and the downpipe end is just a flange.
The Garage don't seem to think it's going to fit.
Can anyone elxplain (in very simple terms) what it should be like and can I get it to fit at all to a standard (MY00) Turbo.

In very simple terms, (like me) the end of the downpipe should have a flange about 1/2 inch back from the end of the pipe, there is a wire seal thing on the original that you can swap over, then you should be able to bolt the centre to it, they may need to use different bolts though.
How simple is that!

The Grarage don't seem to think the flat end of the downpipe will mate up to end of oe centre section.
Are most performance downpipe's end(that mate to the centre section) flat.
To be honest I'm still no wiser, can any one explain if it will fit.

What make of downpipe is it?
Its very rare that an aftermarket DP doesn't fit a Standard centre section (although it does happen
).

As RON says, the OE centre section is designed to mate up with the "carbon" cone shaped gasket which should prise off of the end of the old DP and onto the new one.
To use your description, the gasket is like half an olive and the reason for the flange being set back on the pipe is to allow the gasket to fit around the end of the tube before resting against it.
The result is that with this arrangement that joint is free to move slightly without breaking the seal.
If you don't have this arrangement then your are up diarrhoea drive without a saddle I'm afraid.
I think Valryba who posts on this board was having a similar problem with his DP. You might want to track him down and ask how he got on?
