Default hyprflow anti surge tank

a couple of weeks ago i replaced my walbro pump as it started buzzing like mad.the pump i have put in is still a walbro but the motorsport one,the only thing is that now i am getting realy bad fuel surge when coming out of right hand turns.i have tried lowering the pump further into the tank but its still the same even with 3 quarter of a tank of petrol.if i fill the tank full everthing is normal.i was thinking of fitting a surge tank in the boot but then saw the hyperflow in tank surge tank.has anyone used these and do they work. thanks, arf.

TBH I can only get mine to surge at about the 3 litre mark, well into the "orange" zone....

Sorry !

I have one fitted - it made it better but I still got fuel surge on track at less than 1/2 tank.

I now have a proper swirl pot and the problem is history.

I don't think racing counts Duncan!

For ordinary, even aggressive, road use the Hyperflow device is great. I used to get surge at 1/3 full, but since mine was fitted I've never had it, even with the light on. Yes, if you plan racing then it won't be enough, but for roads it's great.

They work, but are £200. Its a small container to hold back a bit of fuel when going around corners, plus it redirects the FPR fuel return into it.

Another alternative that I keep meaning to take further, is the surge box fitted to US cars:

It's spurred me on to find out how much they are. Group buy perhaps?

Might be interested in one of these if a decent GB price could be found..

Looks similar to the spec c version.

had the pump out again and managed to get the pick up filter lower down which has helped a lot on fast road driving, think ime going to sort out a swirl pot system in the boot over winter as i would like to do a few track days next year.better to be safe than sorry.

I've never suffered fuel surge, even though I always run ~10 miles into orange light. However, one of the things I did was to run a piece of fuel hose from the return 'jet' (which is about halfway up the cradle iirc) directly to the sock. IMO it has to help to some degree and costs a few pence..

Credit for this idea has to go to Floyd, it was one of his 'project' gems..

I've found that the box is called a fuel damper, part no. 42086FE030 and costs a paltry $35-90 from SubaruParts.com - Your #1 Source for OEM Parts and Accessories

I need to track down the cost and part number for the bracket. It's held onto the main pump assembly by two bolts.
I'm sure that the two holes are already on my pump assembly, so the only other part needed would be some fuel hose to extend the FPR return into the "damper".

Just ran that part number (42086FE030) through 1stSubaruparts.com:

https://www.1stsubaruparts.com/part_number.html

Comes out a bit cheaper at £33.92.

Nothing that's clearer than the picture at the top.

The white top unclips and takes the FPR return hose.
The black bottom has the bracket attached which then bolts to the main fuel pump rail.
The existing filter sock just rests in the black part.

I would be interested too, especially at that price. Neither of those companies seem to ship internationally though.

You might want to check out this thread too. 22B Bulletin Board: fuel surge

I just can't see why Hyperflow/MRT can justify £200 on those boxes

Its the type of thing that's ripe for Carl Davey to duplicate.

Agree, I wouldn't pay that for it. If we can't get the cheap subaru version locally, then I might have a go at making one myself (although I doubt it would be up to Carl's standards).
Something like this

Goods news
Although the parts are for US cars, they are available from UK dealerships (thanks for info from RCM )

Quote these part numbers:

- Fuel damper 42086FE030. comes with hose and clips. £46.
- Bracket to fix to main assembly 42052FE490. £5.

There are two mounting screws which I didn't take a note of the numbers, but get the dealer to bring the parts up on screen.

£60 is a bit more acceptable than the hypeflow offering!

60 quid is alot better than the price of the hyperflow one, just shows you what you can get if you shop around.

Just tried to order that now from my local dealer and they said the part number was showing something like a non-return valve for the fuel line. Might just give RCM a call and buy it off them, as at least they will know what I am talking about. If anyone else has better luck, please let me know.

I've order from my local dealership (Westaway). They said it could be up to a week as its not a normal item in stock.
They've confirmed that the parts are a fuel damper and bracket.
I'm not sure if I'm going to have to drill two holes in the fuel pump assembly arm as I thought that I saw the holes last time I took the pump out - but someone else had to drill some on their unit for a Hyperflow item.

I had to drill the holes. Not a big deal though if you protect the rest of it from swarf.

Oh FFS
You were right STiFreak.
Parts turn up and its a non return valve with some hose.
Don't bother ordering it (if not too late).

A combination of Yanks talking BS and RCM "thinking" they know what I'm after.
Back to the starting blocks.
Anyone have part numbers for US newage STis?
