Question May have to sell up - How much tho?

Hey guys,

Im in need of some assistance as i may need to sell my motor.

I applied for a Visa to work in Canada and its been accepted so there is a 99% chance of me going to work there for a year - Trucking baby

The thing is tho ive no idea as to how much i should let it go for, or how i should go about selling it - Ebay? - Autotrader? - tho Ebay is the cheaper option ( trying to save money for move to C )

Some details on the car -

Subaru Impreza WRX 2ltr Turbo
JDM Import
N-Reg 1996 ( may i believe )
Dark Blue
47500 miles
Cone Induction
Bailey BOV
Full Scorpion Decat Exhaust

I know its best to tell the truth when selling a car so -

There are a good few small stone chips on the face of the front bumper. - see pics below.

There are 2 scuffs on the rear spoiler ( it was like this when i bought it as the previous owner had it parked up for nearly 3 years so water has been dripping on it - or atleast thats what it seems to be ) - see pics below.

There are a few scuffs on the wheels, nothing striking out, but a few all the same. The wheels are Original Subaru!

There are a few marks on the seats - ya know were the thigh rubs when getting in and out ( tho this is common i believe )

Thats the bad bit out of the way lol

Other than that above, the car is in brilliant condition. The interior is mint and has Scooby Mats. Ill get a few pics of the inside 2moro when there is more light.

In and around the engine is clean enough. No rust but merely engine dust! - again, ill get a few pics of the engine bay 2moro.

It has a Momo steering wheel.

It has an air horn.

All electrics work. Also just had the Clifford G4 alarm reset.

It starts first time, every time with no smoke.

It has 6 months tax and has 11 months test - MOT!

Some pics -

And a few of the scuffs -

Spoiler

Bonnet - right hand side -

Bonnet - left hand side -

And a pic of the Scorpion - i included a 5 inch mobile to show the scale -

So what do you guys recon and what advice can you give to help me sell it?

I was thinking something in the region of £2000?

Whats your thoughts please,

Many thanks in advance,

Stevie

This is no help at all: but Id be interested to hear about your visa. Trucking you say? I presume that you have a C+E?

lol - i contacted the HRDC [ Human Resources Development Canada ] to give me information as to how i go about getting a visa and basically what all was involved in working out there. Because i was going out as long hauler they suggested i apply for a ' temp visa ' tho i had to have a job lined up to be accepted. So i contacted a few companys and got a job offer, well 3 really

When im out there, then i can apply for a permanent visa - that is if i stick it out lol.

Temporary employment visas, or "work permits", allow skilled professionals to come to Canada temporarily for work. In most cases, a job offer is required, and that job offer must be confirmed by Human Resources Development Canada. This is called a Labour Market Opinion. If you qualify, you can come to Canada with a work permit and begin establishing your new Canadian career before your Application for Permanent Residence is approved!
To qualify you have to meet a point system -

There are six factors to consider in pre-determining how many points you should receive:

Education
Languages (English and/or French)
Work Experience
Age
Arranged Employment in Canada
Adaptability (including previous work or study in Canada, arranged employment, relative in Canada and partner’s education)

I have family in Ontario - well my Aunt is the Mayoress of a town called Thunder Bay - so that helped a GREAT lot!

My age also played a part with being 36!

You also get higher points with the more experience you have - i have 8 years experience of HGV class 1.

I also worked out in Canada before ( back in 94 for 8 months - Thunder Bay )

Basically you need to clear a minimum of 67 points to qualify in the above sectors - i cleared it by 7 points totalling 74

If your thinking about doing it i would suggest applying soon enough. They are in very high demand for truckers at the moment with a very high shortage.

I only have a class 2 licence. It hadnt occured to me that that would be a required trade though. Do you lose points as you get older, like you do with an Australian application?

I believe that I can go to Australia quite easily now though, as my younger brother in now an Australian.

Yea that would be a huge benefit if your bro is a citizen out there.

The points for age breaks down like this -

16 and younger 0 points (minimum)
17 2 points
18 4 points
19 6 points
20 8 points
21-49 years old 10 points (maximum)
50 8 points
51 6 points
52 4 points
53 2 points
54 and older 0 points (minimum)

Im not sure how it works for Austrailia tho i believe its easier if you have a job accepted by a Registerd Employer!

Thanks guys.

Yea as far as i know the milage is sweet as, with the car being parked up for nearly 3 years.

Also, im led to believe that the cam belt was changed before being parked up.

Ya see, the guy i bought it of totally striped the hole engine and gave it a good going over then rebuilt it. The reason he done this was because he was going to Rally it - he's a mechanic for Mark Higgins so the engine has been well looked after. His mrs had a baby so he had to sell it on.

When i got it back in July it was fully serviced with brand new oils, belts, plugs etc. The only thing i needed to put on was 2 new tyres new battery, tax and test it!!

So £2000 sounds about right then. Cool!

I think im gonna go with putting it on Fleebay - any advice here would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldnt put any of the above, sounds dodgy to me
If the previous owner had told me all that i'd have left it but thats me

doubt you will get near 2k off ebay tho, maybe 1300

one of the better looking pre facelift ones i've seen, not many in that colour (is it DBM?), I would consider it if I was after one

how long have you had it

To be honest it gave me more confidence knowing that a fully qualified Subaru mechanic owned it!

TWO GRAND??? thats cheap for such a nice car imho, it looks great and in a lovely colour. Wouldnt worry too much about scuffs on the spoiler as 9 times out of ten the new owner would put a high level spoiler onto the car (I know i would ) but if you put it on for two grand buy it now i reckon it'd sell quickly, and yes ur right ive seen a few go on ebay in not as good nick for between 2300-2800 so you shouldnt have a problem

Thanks for replying Ash,

Yea £2000 is cheap for the condition of this car, tho selling it quick is my only option - that is if i decide to go soon enough!

As for the spoiler, yea i would have been doing the same. I had alot of plans for it - STi 6/7 spoiler, 2 small bonnet scoops, 18inch wheels and back window tints. Aw well

Does anyone know the best way to sell it on Ebay in terms of collecting money -

Should i take a deposit when the auction ends then cash when they are collecting it? How does the deposit work?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Stevie

If you sell on ebay, take a paypal payment as a deposit, if you dont have paypal, only takes a few minutes to sign up.

Getting a deposit through paypal though, helps that you can there and then pay for the listing fees, plus you have some assurance the buyer is genuine

If you ask for say, even just a £100 deposit, say at the bottom of ur listing basically something like this:

"A non-refundable deposit of £100 via paypal is required within 48 hours of the auction ending, the rest can be paid on collection, in cash or bankers draft or cheque. However please note the car will not be released until all funds are cleared. Test drives welcome but please no tyre kickers and bring your driving license and my full asking price in cash with you if you expect a test drive! Please only bidders with more than TEN feedback bid on this item, if less than ten or any negative feedback please contact me on a landline telephone number before you place your bid. Total payment & collection to be made within seven days of auction end please, non paying bidders WILL be reported to ebay and negative feedback left!"

Up to you how you word it, sternly or friendly, but that pretty much gets the point across. More than ten feedback buyers gives you peace of mind that they are more or less genuine and wont mess you about, the deposit is non refundable which means you have more peace of mind if they mess you about, plus it stops people just bidding on it who dont have the cash, so only genuine bidders

but thats the jist of it! good luck

Are you going to be on that Discovery program 'Ice Road Truckers?'

If trucking is your thing you should move to Oz, drive a fookin' ma-hoo-sive road train across the Nullabar

Stick the car on ebay and get out of the UK ASAP mate, the £2k for the car will seem sooooooo insignificant once you're living in another country

Ash - your a good man, great help mate

Blooscooby - lol no mate - that would be to cold for me ice road truckin. Saying that, Canada's winters arent far of!

Ive beed to Oz as a holiday but Canada attracts me more. And the thought of a 4 long road train .....

Yea the way things are going in this counrty regarding road and traffic is getting worse by the day. There are TOO many rules, especially for truckers. Sitting in traffic jams will soon be the thing of the past for me wooo hooo

And Vosa - well dont get me started

Im sorting the pics now for Fleebay. Should be up later on this evening!!

Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated indeed!

Stevie.

My brother waited 14 months for his visa for Canada - he left for Calgary some 6 weeks ago and loves it. They were pretty stringent and the government actually told his employing company to put his salary up some 15%

And 2k is a good price but let buyers knock you down to that.. so advertise at £2200-2250

Ash - its up now mate lol. I copied it yes, well, some. I didnt want to give my number out on ebay so i left my email addy so they can leave there number and ill ring them!

Clicky

It wouldnt let me do the ' Buy It Now ' because i needed to have more than 10 feedbacks. Only have 8 lol. Aw well!

GC8 - Digital Tachos are a pain in the ****. Cant get away with nothing now! Not that i would condone driving more than 9/10 hours........oooo role on Canada lol.

Thanks Jay, i appreciate that mate.

Cal - whats he out there doing? yea mine took 9 months. I think it only took that short a time because they are crying out for truckers. The wage ive offerd is double to what i would get here. Best thing is tho, ill be away for 2/3 months at a time so ill be saving a hell of alot
