Spent most of today removing my dash as it was pretty badly damaged by the sun.

Started off looking like this:






After about an hour and a half it looked like this







After about 2 hours or so after lots of messing around with the wiring for my alarm and the rac tracker etc it looked like this:



Was starting to get dark so didn't get time to clean it all and take some decent pics but it looks so much better now

Not the easiest of jobs to do but got there in the end

should have had it flocked mate, pointless fitting a second hand dash in "better condition", as it will only just fade again in time

I had no idea how involved it was going to be until I got the old dash half out and then realised my alarm wiring was stopping the dash being removed

I ended up disconnecting more and more wires to allow the old dash to be removed.

Stopped halfway through the job for a nice roast dinner so it wasn't all bad

 

From the pictures i've seen of a flocked dash, I personally don't like the look of them.

Mine got faded badly last year while I was rebuilding it. It was sat for the whole summer and the sun must have been on the same spot everyday which made it that bad.

 

its just a pisser when you will end up changing your dash again in time (if you keep the car)

consider it "saving" you money in the long run

Does look good there actually. I only paid £5 for my dash from ebay

Found out that the metalwork behind the dash is razor sharp though,got to clean all the blood off the dash tomorrow

 

looks much better, wanna get mine flocked but dont wanna spend a fortune...
next mod for me - white leathers ummmmmm

aye, i lost a bit of blood as well the first time

one of my jobs when i was working for the factory that makes nissan micra seats for nissan, was to clip the fabric onto the actual seat base metal frame (called a seat pan) its the same kind of metal with the same kind of edge, and they had to give me expensive kevlar gloves to wear as loads of lads kept cutting fingers off on the job

i paid £150 from ASP but they don't do them on site, so obviously a bit of a mark up on them as they send them elsewhere.

i think they did say they had used a few different places in the past and had problems with them coming back patchy, so not sure if its down to some places charging a bit more or not?

 

did the same a year ago on a previous car and last month or so on this one




need to take some more since I have adjusted handbrake and hoovered

Flock is the way to go....though I don't think i'm brave enough to get the dash out......

Does anyone do this as a complete job..dash out - flock then re-fit......how much any ideas...

 

has anyone put the facelift dash into the older car??????

Not bad, is it? Theyre doing an 944 oval dash and a centre console for me, for £120. I take it there and theyre shipping it back to me for that too.

 

I used suffolk flocking services.. 115 including posting it back to me and too a week.. I have one patch which is where the dash was soft on a corner.. so not their fault imho

About a year ago the dash in one of my cars was swapped after it faded very badly. Cow of a job unless you like that sort of thing I guess. Anyway, just like Mickey said above, the problem has come back again so only this very afternoon, Dawn, my partner, has been applying boot polish and rubbing/brushing it in well. Initial results look good. A couple of further applications and the job should be like new. Hopefully it will last. Time will tell.
If it works I will let you know as it has to be a better option than replacing the blasted thing with another seconhand one, only for that to fade too.

 

I did the same with black silicone.. looked better but still crap

 

This looks good so far Simon and like I said, time will tell. I will get some photos when we are fully happy with it.
What sort of black silicon did you use and how was it applied?

 

my motor is a 1993 and it sits outside all year round, with exception to the winter months when its covered & I have no sign of fade at all....infact the dash looks as good as new
