Which stretch?

So they've 'lost' the discrete canary yellow BMW, with the 'jam sandwich' down the side?

Well I got pulled up by the 'jam sadwiched' VR6 about 9 months ago. And that was in the Tolworth area.

I'm guess it's Met Police, and doesn't want to venture into Surrey Police area!

If they're only policing as far as the Hook underpass southbound, then they could be showing some sensible discretion. North of there, the A3 has very narrow lanes, lots of entry/exit points and is often very congested. For most of the time, the 50mph limit is a safe upper limit anyway.

Gary.

I remember when I were a lad, and the lanes were just as narrow with a 70mph limit. And no speed cameras!! Which meant that traffic in the fast lane varied from 70 to 100mph!!! 80mph being average down there!

God I feel old, I've been driving up and down there for over 10 years now!!! 28 on Sunday!!

The policing is probably a sensible move, due to the amount of accidents where the lanes go into two before Hook.

Then again how many accidents have been caused with people jumping in from the fast lane, as it merges with the middle lane.

Also how many rearenders have happened due to people seeing the camera too late, and stamping on the brakes!!!

There has got to be a safer way of doing that!!

Andy - Feeling older than ever!!!

[Edited due to spelling - or lack of it!!]

I not sure where the Hook turn off is but I've seen this one on the stretch out of the built up area, I think it's called London, to the M25 .....you know when you are in the countryside.

How do you know you are in the country side ???

Is it cos they have built a Tesco ???

My fav bit used to be comming from M25 flat out towards Hook where it went in to 2 lanes and then in to a long right hander with people joining from the left.

Speed cameras have ruined that now !!!

Hate to correct you, but that's the Sainsburys in Cobham. I use to live there!!

Once managed to get from Cobham to Tolworth in 6 minutes - in a Golf 1.3C!!!

Then again it was also before Hook where I got my 3 points. 97.7 MPH in a *COUGH* Volvo 340DL 1.4!!!!

I know, I got what I deserved. I thought the same thing at the time!

These things happened in my youth, it's amazing how quickly you can loose your sense of indestructibility!!!!

Coming up the A3 from the M25 once, I had an idiot sitting on my rear bumper. This was until the first junction when a nice officer on two wheels decided that he would flash his nice blues lights at him!

Dan

PS. I dont think we should be giving details of un-marked cars out. If you speed, you get court! (I know, 3 points)

no one really sticks to 60 on the A3.I travel Chichester to London everyday. I get progressively faster the closer to Chichester I get as there is less traffic and then you have a choice of some great South Down B roads. But I've been wondering the faster I drive the more times I have to pull into a gas station and that may cancel out my progressive speed...?????

As you head southbound on the A3 and go under the HOOK underpass obviously the speed increases and so does the speed limit. This is now surrey constabularys concern and they have two scoobies one marked and one unmarked.HOWEVER the Met boys can still go down there so beware and watch those mirrors

I've never seen a scooby cop car on the A3, really.... I'm on it every day, what colour? I had fun with a white wrx the other day, I'll be more careful next time.

Cool

I'm also on the A3 each day (M25 to New Malden and back)... smiled at the Marked Volvo estate on the Cobham bridge this morning (had to slow down to 80!).

The fastest car I have seen on the A3 (some while ago now)was a blue Scooby (????WRX) which was well above 100mph (probably 120+mph). I stayed well clear, as he stood out a mile from all the moderate speeders

Not sure what all this running out of puff is about, but don't you find running out of space more of an issue on the A3? I'm sure that 120mph, 130mph, or even (god forbid) 160mph would not be sustainable for long before playing dodgems!!!

Only teasing...... The only place to get to that sort of speed on the bit of the A3 I know is leaving HOOK heading southbound. 130 mph should come up just before Copsem lane and the rest between there and the M25....

..Oh yeah....and at 3 am on a sunday morning !!!!!!!
