Question

I am thinking of getting a S/S backbox and air filter (ITG or something, not s/s )for my MY00 Sport Spec. I was wondering if anybody knew what kind of effect this would have on the warranty. Can I just get a Magnex and bung it on or do I have to get an (expensive ) prodrive one from a dealer?

Any advice gratefully received!

You may find that your dealer wont mind too much if you put an new exhaust system on, however the air filter might be an issue due to the MAF being more prone to infection.

I'm running with a ITG panel filter and ScoobySport downpipe, and have had no probs at all.. oh, and 6x4" magnex backbox..

Rgds, Alex

I have had a SS backbox and ITG filter for over 2 years, with no problems as far as warranty is concerned.

Dick were they referring to a warranty claim on the exhaust or just generally? If they speaking in general terms of a warranty claim, then they are talking cr*p (picture the scene - You: My gearbox has failed - Dealer: ah Sir, we can't warranty that because you have SS backbox - I don't think so).
Most dealers are OK with backboxes and minor mods - a lot of dealers will fit them for you on a brand new car. In the event of a warranty claim, it is upto the garage to put the claim into IM, so I would hunt around for a friendly garage.

Chris (MY00 running Magnex BB / Centre section & HKS with no problems with dealer (and I've just had the clutch replaced under warranty))

Question

I thought the warranty was only a problem if problems were caused as a result of modifications?? (eg. replacing the exhaust and then having engine failure later on because of incorrect back-pressure etc.? -I'm not technically minded so I dont know if that made much sense to all you engine bods! )

Maybe I'm wrong but I'm sure somebody made a comment along these lines at some point before!

Hello Ed

I see you say you have a sport. Trying to get an exhaust is a night mare. I ave a sport special which basicly looks the exactly the same as a turbo. (Dont tell anyone) Magnex wont do one. I asked them and they say it wont do the job

I am going to go for the scooby sport b/b and de cat.

I would be grateful for any coments.

Cheers

Paul

Yes, I had a new clutch under warranty and I have an SS box. As mentioned above, you should be OK as long as the mod doesn't cause the failure you're trying to get fixed under warranty.
