Howdy all, been a few years since I've been on here. I have a 2002 STi Prodrive 6 speed MT. All the gears are fine, but when I put it into 6th it will jump out after a few seconds usually if I back off the power and back on? If I keep it held into place its fine and drives no problems, but as soon as I take my hand away it'll be out after about 5 seconds of driving. Whats went wrong, how much we talking? And am I in deep $#!7

Sounds like either the selector or a weak sync, dunno the cost, it depends how easy they are to change really

oh no, that doesn't sound too clever!!! Any other gearbox gurus on here thats ready to depress me even more

Dont worry too much, i dont know how these gearboxes are accessed, it could have an acess plate and the syncro could be very easy to change

Speak with David at API - heard lots good things about them and I'll be there in couple of weeks for mods.

 

Cheers for the advice with API, I have just send them an email explaing whats happening, hope they can figure out whats went wrong and its not too serious of a problem! Anyone else got any ideas?

just had my 5th replaced and all the syncros done on my 6 speed box, dropped the box of at api monday morning and they finished it yesterday, the box has to be taken apart to get to the syncros and from what i can see its a very time consuming job on these 6 speeds

 

also have you checked all your engine/gearbox mounts

 

Maydew, just out of interest what sort of price are we talking for that sort of job. Just so I know how much to expect.
