Default Gear change getting worse...

Hi guys,

the gearbox on my 93 wrx was great when I brought it (2 yrs ago) but then it started to crunch into 4th after I missed a gearchange at speed

Its slowly got worse and its 'clunking' into gear, ive checked the gearbox oil and the level is fine, I topped it up with castrol syntrax until it was almost coming out of the gearbox dipstick.

Fitted an 'ebay' quickshift which has'nt worsened or improved the change to be fair.

Sometimes its really hard to get into gear when stationary or a crawling speed for example

Try changing the fluid to Redline Heavy Duty Shockproof gearbox oil. It did the trick for me on my old P1 when I had similar symptoms.

Might cost you £70 or thereabouts for the oil and no guarantee it will solve your problem, but if it does then it's much cheaper than a gearbox rebuild.

Tip - if you do this then be sure to warm up the oil before you try to top up the gearbox as it's thick like treacle.

Cheers

Terry
