Decision between uk spec import WRX and £6k mods (like PC's) or new STi Prodrive? Some folks argue that the new STi is 10x better than the mod'd WRX (250-260bhp) Leda, Brembo etc... still no real proof, unless someone has driven both.

The insurance game, does anyone know how the mods affect the insurance costs and what is the group rating for the new STi?
Surely a st'd STi is cheaper to insure than WRX mod'd?

Any facts?

I think you are probably right about the insurance costs ...the STI via us is certainly cheaper than our rates for a modified UK WRX....

*funny old world...the world of insurance...*

Personally I'd go for the STI if they are the options, you'll get more money back selling the STI, than a modded WRX, and you'll get decent gear ratios too. And yes insurance will be better on a standard car. And with exhaust change you'll probably get about 290bhp on the STI

Thanks, i guess youve just confirmed my own thoughts.

Although most peoples quotes are approx 50% higher than their WRX with basic mods, maybe 50/50 either way.

Time to do the donkey work and phone around.

The STI would be a better platform than a WRX but it depends what you want to achieve. I would have an STI before a modded WRX but obviously its going to be more expensive to purchase. Insurance wise, insurance compnaies love standard motors and not ones which have been "played" with

cheers

Well part of the decision is whether or not the likes of a pete croney modded WRX is better than the standard STi. I've been trying on other forums to find people that have driven both.

No sucess yet. I am swayed to the STi but still many factors to work out.
