Anyone ever got close in a straight line drag with a bike, I have ridden a CBR 600 and cant imagine any normal road car getting even close, never mind Blades, GSXR's and R1,s

My dad had (before his Fireblade) a VFR750 and said that quite easily out accelerated a "2 Door blue Subaru Impreza" as he put it

 

I have done a straight line drag with a CBR600 - a standard scoob doesn't really have much of a chance against it.

My rex had a go, but still no cigar LOL

 

Reckon I could beat one in the snow

 

i had an R1, against most cars it would have the edge but against a scoob it would be neck and neck. even on dry straight roads the awd scoob would have an advantage of the line.

the only way an R1 could keep up is if i took the overinflated ego of scoob drivers of the pillion seat.

0-100 in about 6
0-160 in about 15 secs

Even with a crap launch technique, me on my bike could blow away me in my Scoob

For pure speed/performance a bike can't be beat - take the car when it's raining/got passengers/can't be bothered to get changed.

Every Scoob owner should have a bike for sunny days

In a straight line any decent bike will destroy an anything like standard scooby.

Followed a Kawasaki (something or other) when up north last summer, it was a lot slower around the corners (no great rider), but on anything resembling a straight it just disappeared.

 

I can't imagine ANYTHING except mega expensive supercars giving a well ridden CBR600 trouble in a straight line. For what it's worth, I beat a Suzuki GS500E away from a damp set of lights. He was trying REALLY hard but I was amazed that could slowly pull ahead. Being a bike owner myself I was amazed my Scoob could do this. Even something as lowly as GS500E is good for a sub 14 sec quarter mile.

ps- yeah, yeah... if the track has snow, mud, rain, holes and you want to take 5 ppl round then a scoob's the thing, blah, blah, blah

 

Agree with Matt.

An R6, CBR600 etc will hit 100 from rest in around 7-8 secs, so from rest theres no chance.

A quick Scoob has got more of a chance when rolling if it's got good torque though.

If the bikes not std though, forget it.

And that's 600s - R1s etc, err.........

 

I read in performance bikes a while ago, the R1 against a variety of cars. The only *car* to beat it was a lightweight frame thing with an engine designed for track LOL, people who have read it will know which one The Impreza got a lot of praise from the magazine IIRC.

 

Had a 12r (Kawasaki good for 200mph) myself, though for normal road stuff my scoob is much easier to use fast. On the track providing it is dry the bike wll win,, a bit of rain & scoob.

& I don't get punched around the lower back region so much in the scoob!!!

 

i'd be interested to see times for bikes round tracks in the wet compared to scoobs- i reckon u might be surprised

Ive got that vid of some geezer doing the ring in his R1 and racing a westfield turbo and the westie was easily pulling away through the sharp corners (dry track but with 1 passenger) but the R1 caught up on the long straights so pretty even.

At the end of the day a bike is like a feather compared to a scoob. The PTW ratio is always going to be superior.

On another note - one would assume that a F1 car would do better lap times than a superbike due to grip from huge tyres and downforce? About time we saw a race between the two - now that would be cool.

 

A standard race prepped production 600cc bike like an R6 or CBR600 will equal the times of a 2 liter BTCC mota around Oulton Park race circuit. Ri's Blade's etc will give times good enough to run mid field in a 500GP race around Donnington. The only way you'll beat a bike is if he thinks your 1500kg's is going to run over him coming into a bend. I raced some Nitrous thing years ago in a 440bhp 4X Sapp' dusted me on the straight but he give up when i drove around the outside of him on a fast bend, he was gutted!

 

1:42.75 for a CBR600 @ Oulton park I think it was dry but can't remember.....that was back in 30/6/2001

Come on, who's done a track day in a Scoob? Don't be shy putting 2 minutes something! Its a liitle unfair really if you crash a bike it'll cost £200 for a full fairing and pocket change for the rest. Who's crashed on a track day and how much was the repair?

 

the video with john at the ring has the R1 rolling off the gas to stop from flying past the ickle car down the straights! (no doubt john will talk about gearing, etc )

turning a scoob into an F1 car is a tad tricky but i took an R1 out of the crate- spent £2,000 and had a bike that was race quick. not valentino quick but you get the idea.

goodwood 1.24, brands indy .53, snett 1.17, donno (gp) errr- cant remember- i'd be surrprised if a scoob was close and im not a racer (just a track day hero )

ps- rode home from trackdays on my bike before i lashed out on a trailer and i'm pretty sure i got home faster than if i'd been in any car!

 

I'd have to admit to being a *reluctant* passenger (NOT!! ) in a certain Norfolk based bbs'ers slightly special cossie when a CBR600 overtook him under max acceleration.

Said bbs'er pulled out behind him & floored it

CBR was reeled in and overtaken as if he wasn't moving

Probably sh@t himself too!!!

When normal cruising speed was re-attained biker comes up looks over, shakes his head in wonderment, sticks his thumb up and piddled off.

Come on guys the Scoob doesn't stand a chance against a CBR6, R6 etc when it's being ridden by someone who knows what they're doing but against a **** rider the Scoob could quite easily be quicker.

That's the thing with bikes to be quick and stay alive you have to be good.

A couple of months ago i was out for a spin in me scoob when i came across an R1. i thought id have a run against him....result = me doin a ton twenty whilst hes wheelying and still pulling away from me.......RESPECT!!!!

outbraked him and had him at the roundabout though!!!

R6s aren't very quick flat out though are they?

Rider in france looked a bit shocked when I overtook one who must've been flat out - and my 3 passengers waved at him

 

The problem is hanging on......you get to about 130 - 140 and, especially on 600's, the wind resistance gets a bit much.

What you driving CraigH, the R6 is good for 150 - 160 if not more, as long as the rider has the kohunas and skill to do it

Having a Scooby and a Blade I can say with confidence that the Scooby has no chance.

The Scooby is similar to a 400cc sports bike acceleration wise..
a GSXR400R (had one), VFR400R or a CBR400R...

A bike larger than 400cc in a sports format just makes the Scooby (or any fast car) look like it is going backwards...

In the wet things are different, and add some real twists in then again the car would have more chance but get near a straight and my Blade creams anything other than a good rider on an R1...or similar...
Even a Ferrari 308 looks silly... well sorry it looked lovely but it couldn't keep up.

No heater, far more risk, but above all far more fun... IMHO..
all personal preference... I used the Blade when there is no risk of ice.. not much fun watching ££££ scrape of the bike as it slides from under you.. and the Scooby when it is icy or for taking the family out.. best of both worlds...

 

I have a WRX STI 4 with 350BHP and a Y2K Fireblade.
On the straight or a track the Fireblade would easy win.
On UK roads the Scooby would easy hold it's own, and I suspect so would a modereately tuned UK Scooby, because even with a steering damper the Blade canoot put the power down in the same way.
4 wheels will always = better traction than 1 and the Y2K blade is frequently 1 wheel if you use all the power.
At the end of the day though you cannot compare.
The bike rider would have more fun whatever the road.
The Scooby rider would feel safer and might even get there sooner, but whatever, at the end of the day any bike rider will be happier.
Anyone driving just a car is really in no position to comment, you have to try both before you can appreciate the completely different feelings.
Cars are good.
Scoobys are fab.
But bikes have the edge.
Sorry to all those who have yet to experience bikes, but it's the truth.

 

p1 fanatic i think the f1's do suzuka 30 secs faster than the gp bikes so a race is not on the cards. tiggs fords are doing 40 "8?" summit i think round indy so 4 wheels has somthing going for it.

 

Can't really comment on all of the posted stuff here about times, but I am going to the Nurburgring in April with a group of 10 people - 7 bikes and 3 cars, including a Kawasaki ZX12 and an R1.

Expecting to get trashed (no previous formal track training and I want to get home in the same car) but should be interesting in terms of lap times etc..

As an aside, someone from work was killed on a bike on the 'Ring before Christmas. Travelling fast and encountered a slow moving bus. Avoided it but totalled himself on the Armco.

Here is sincerely hoping all make it back OK this time.
