Smile MY08 STI Ordered today :)

Well I'm so excited, ordered a new STI today... been a while since I was on here after selling my 02 WRX about 4 years ago but I've wanted to return to the Impreza fold much of my time away (via a Kia Sorento, Civic Type R, Evo VIII 260, Cayman S, Clio RS 197 R27 and Subaru Outback). I know the looks have divided opinion and certainly I agree that whoever designed the rear lights didn't have the best day in the office when they came up with those efforts but the rest of the package just works for me.

Gone for WR Blue with Gold GT1 Prodrive 18's, rear tints (dealer fit), subwoofer (although the standard setup is sooo much better than I remember the bugeye's to be) and STI mats - oh and don't shoot me, the removable tow bar (for very occaisonal lightweight racecar towing if the camper and 2nd tow car are out of action). Should be with me within a couple of weeks, fingers crossed.

I had a trade in (Outback) so haggled a little on that and some off the options, KT Greens supplying and they back up some other entries on here that IM have taken some margin out of the car so the dealers have less to play with, plus tightened up on the allocations to each dealer (for now anyway). So I guess I got a bit off but nothing fantastic.

Well enjoy, i saw a white one on the road today, first i've seen outside of Subaru garage and it looked good.

I test drove one earlier in the month, i found the steering a little light, but quickly got used to it.

Always nice to see the ranks of the MY08STi growing. I’m afraid you’ll have to put up with a bit of stick on the forum though; you’ll even get some PM’s telling you your new car is ugly and slow. Apparently it’s softer than a marshmallow and slower than a standard MY00 WRX.
The great thing is, you’ll know better.

The rear lights are a true disaster, as for the rest of the car it really is growing on me. Put up some piccies when you get it mate.

John - whats the figure between the time and the temp on your centre dash display?

What after market front grille and rear lights are available?

The Litchfield motor looks much better as all the chrome which makes the car look like a Kia or a Vauxhall has gone.

Cheers, I'm well happy with my choice and not bothered if it's not to everyone's taste. That's part of Scoob ownership for me, they provoke a reacton of some sort, you don't get that with humdrum German rep-mobiles....

I must admit that in the 'flesh' I think they have a much better stance than seems to be portrayed in any pic's I've seen, not sure why, still not seen one on the road yet only at dealers.

I was torn between the Euro premium model that the likes of David Hendry is selling and a UK car. No doubt the euro model offers better value what with the Recaro's and standard sat nav plus those expensive BBS alloys but just not value in the right place for me. JDM nice also but this is a daily driver and I want simple if it goes wrong etc.

Looking forward to the PPP release later in the year as well, I made the mistake of having the PPP kit fitted from new on my old WRX but it meant I never 'felt' the difference, so quickly wanted more, this way I can get used to the standard STI power and all the SI and Diff settings before opting for PPP in the summer (fingers crossed it's released then).

The figure between the temp and time is the average fuel consumption. Can be selected for trip A or B. I am currently averaging 24.7 mpg. I was averaging 22 in my Focus ST2.

LS.

What tempted you back to the fold on the new model compared to the old one that couldn't?

I was tempted back with the practicality, looks (not everyones cup of tea but it works for me, rear lights being the exception probably), price, performance and the fact I wanted a new car. I probably would have looked at the hawkeye if that was still the current model although because the interior and exterior hadn't really moved on since my 02 it may have held me back. The new softer approach also works for me, it's a daily driver and I do some longer runs down the motorways so the new direction by Subaru is well aimed at me.

Default STi 08

Had a test drive on an '08 STi, and I loved it!

Smoother, better seat, better driving position.

Will trade 06 WRX in for one later this year.

Didn't like 18" wheels on demo car, took away some steering feel.

Insurance same as current WRX, couldn't believe it when I called my insurer.

SI Drive really works.

There's plenty of stuff to buy and being done to the Harman one:

Yeah, want some 'flaps' myself but not so keen on the Rally Armour ones I've seen elsewhere, not sure they suit this car in the design they've gone for although no doubt it will help with the paint problems the guys in the States who have heavy road gritting are seeing.

Think my car is ready bar the wheels and subwoofer, just waiting for them to arrive.

Looks nice in White by the way. I test drove the white one with antracite GT1's are Stan Palmers. Nice. But my heart has always wanted WR Blue with gold wheels although I'd probably admit that I'm not entirely sure it's the best combination on the new car, just couldn't risk feeling like I still wanted this combo if I'd gone white or silver on the car.

Collected mine yesterday, but I'm puzzled. In the manual, there is no reference to the central diff control or the sport drive control. It begs the question, is there a different manual for the sti? Any clues anyone?

^^^^^^

It might be written on the inside of the supplied brown paper bag supplied with the car. The one with the eye holes in.

I'm thinking of starting a new Facebook group, MY08 STI Owners Anonymous or I Own a MY08 STI and I'm Proud

Back on topic, I think I've read somewhere else that said the SI Drive/DCCD doesn't get covered in the manual.
