Bugeye Cambelt Change
Its unfortunately time to change the cambelt on my 52 Bugeye. Ive been quoted £600 by my mechanic but hes not a Subaru specialist.Hes serviced and dealt with my cars for over 6 years and i do trust him but its a lot of money.
Can anyone give me an idea of price and time to do ?
And if anyone can recommend a scooby specialist near Birmingham that would charge a reasonably good price ?
Thanks for any help and dvice.

mate.
I have a 03 bug eye- dont 35,000 just got my belt replaced as well.
- subaru quoted me £450!!!
I said no and went to my local garage in glasgow who i know and trust.
KR TUNING.
They did it for a LOT LOT less.
Go somewhere else because that price is shocking

If you buy a genuine Subaru belt they cost near £100. They are just Gates belts which most factors sell.
4 Hours labour should see it done by a good mechanic thats never done one before
So if you say £50 an hour is £200, Belt £100 and then VAT
Thats £352.50

IIRC API charge about just over £200, but that could go up depending on the state of the tensioners.
Still a lot cheaper than £600, and that's with a Subaru specialist..!
BTW Phoning around the scoob specialists, none were more that £300 for a basic belt change..!
Scoobs are relatively easy to do unlike most other cars today..!

That sounds a lot better. I think I wont need the wallet bypass now. Ill see if I can sound out my local dealer and go from there to see what I can sort out.
Thanks for the suggestions.

£600....is his garage called dick turpin's.........if you are near derby jd performance are very reasonable...worth a ring....dont know price but i know its a lot lower than that....
you sould pay around £150 for cambelt kit (belt, tensioner and pullys) about 3-4 hours to do the job. did the job myself with a little help from a mate of mine (twice as the first kit had the wrong belt
)
the easiest cambet change i have ever done, once you get the rad out of the way there loads of room to work
£300 sound about right for the job inc tensioner and pullys

They are easy to change, I find its easier removing the rad as it gives you a lot more space (saves cutting your hands on the fan cowling as well!)
<cough>
got a mate in the trade (good init?)
